Does anyone else think students should do their OWN homework?

I am sooo tired of seeing school questions in the history section (among other sections). Most of the kids aren't even discreet about it! One yesterday (who reported me after I told him to do his own homework) asked for the answer in paragraph form!

Update:

Erik: Usually I DO just ignore it. But it is getting out of control. I enjoy the history section for the thought provoking questions. Every other question this week has been a homework assignment. And usually no one answers them!

For example: What was Catherine the Great's impact on world history? (be brief please, but no to brief),thanks10ptsbestans?

SHe has now asked this twice!

    Beth,

I know what you mean about the homework questions. I see them all the time as well and to be honest I am somewhat guilty of assisting those that I know should be doing their own first level research. OK, so now you know I am guilty of what you are tired of seeing in the History section. In my defense I come to History and/or Politics/Government-Military sections to relax. I enjoy seeing questions that I believe I can bring some value to and it also helps me to recall those events in History that are important to me. Like you I do get really tired of seeing the same questions filter in here and I also have to admit that some of these kids can be a real challenge. When I was in elementary school and high school there was no such thing as the "internet". I had to go to a library and read through the catalog cards in order to obtain the information I needed. Spelling an authors name was always detrimental to finding the exact book I needed; so, in some ways (now in reflection) it all helped me with my spelling as well. LOL!

I have seen that Catherine the Great question filter more than just a couple of times. I guess we all find ways to ignore certain questions and you seem intelligent enough to know for yourself which ones to stay away from.

I truly wish there were more interesting questions in this section. I asked a question yesterday that I thought would be interesting and I obtained one response with a one syllable word...LOL!

Have a good day and tomorrow is the 66th Anniversary of the D-Day landing in Normandy France. We should all be grateful for their sacrifice toward our modern day freedoms!

    Semper Fi,

    Gerry D.

nicely that's a sparkling day and age. Yahoo solutions is purely as sturdy because of the fact the library. what's incorrect with asking? isn't that what you're surprisingly plenty doing once you seek for out the respond in a e book? I mean that's in contrast to you're no longer studying something. each and each time I ask a question and that i recieve an answer I learn some thing new. I agree people would desire to spend extra time on the library, inspite of the shown fact that this isn't any longer consistently the perfect source for tips anymore. i could like which you will e mail me returned so i will comprehend why you stumble in this a bad ingredient.

Yes, students should do their own homework and you know by the questions if it is homework or something bothering them outside of school. I don't mind helping them, I can help them by pointing them to their school books, notes, encouragement, help with ideas on searches, or where to find the information. Some ask questions that I even have problems with, perhaps they were sick that day in school, or played hookie I, you don't know. I will help them because in the end if they read my good and honest help they have learned. Maybe they will also learn by my help that history is exciting, wonderful, important and pay better attention in class.

Of course it is getting out of control LOL finals are coming up! I have seen her question only I am not into that era of Russian history enough to be of any help! LOL

As a student, we are allowed to ask people to help us out with our homework. We dont have to be discrete because we are allowed. Some of us dont have parents or family that will help us out. I dont even live with my parents. So sometimes when you have like 10 assignments due in 5 hours you ask a yahoo answers question to get other peoples answers and opinions to help you out a little on a questions or two.

I think its wrong to type out an entire assignment and ask someone to do it for you, but asking for one or two questions isnt bad. Just leave them alone and dont answer them if you dont want to help them out. Maybe you forget how hard it is to be a student balancing work, school, and a social life.

Well, the paragraph is a bit much. I guess they should do their own homework, but how should they if they don't know what to do? Just direct them to tutorvista.com for a free homework session.

I don't mind helping people with their homework. I like to think that the knowledge i have picked up from books may be useful to others. I don't grudge sharing my knowledge with those who may need it. If you don't like answering homework questions then don't, nobody is forcing you.

    Hello Beth l,

There's a big difference between "helping" and "doing it for me".

I don't hesitate to help a student....but I refuse to do it all. Doing it all robs the student of

his education. On Y/A, when I see a question "Please give me the answer...", I ignore that

question and move on to the next. I don't respond at all....that way, the questioner can't

report me. NO....I'll give hints and clues to guide the student in the right direction.

If they ask for help, I'll help...but...if they ask for answers, I'll pass over them, OK??

    Yes.

Although (Yes, I am weird), I am one of the few who actually like history.

Though it is relaxing when someone else does you homework, it isn't fun when you're the one doing the other person's. Plus, you finish their's, but you don't do yours. That's one of the million downsides. (good job on telling that person to do their OWN work)

Been there. Done that. Nobody can say they have never cheated.

what? Make them think for themselves? HERESY!

We must feed them the party line, indoctrinate them so they follow along like good little sheep. Leave them to find the answers themselves, there is no telling what strange malign ideas they might get into their heads.

    1. you can't tell other kids what to do.

    2. the more you tell them not to do something they do it more.

    3. if you're not gonna give them a good answer just don't answer.

    4. if you don't like it don't even pay attention to it.

I don't really care if they get their answers from here or not, as long as it gets them a good grade that's fine... but they're cheating themselves from learning. It's not my problem its theirs.
