Vietnam - Cost of living?

Hi everyone, can somebody with experience please tell me a little about the cost of living in Vietnam, how far British Pounds go and what I should expect to pay for accomodation etc.

I would also be interested in how easy it is to get a work visa and settle for a few months,

Thanks!

You picked the worst possible time to travel on the British Pound Guy. Currently $1.44 or 27'000 dong. I can also promise you the owner of the Sailing Club in Nha Trang, Peter, an Aussie, is not going to give you a job doing anything. Strict new laws on work visas, or lack thereof, come into affect next month, and many expats working illegally on tourist visas will be shown the front door, literally! The one thing this country does have is manpower. They don't need to import it. I'd be rethinking your plans if you're low on funds. You can live cheap here if you want to live like a peasant but there can be enormous health risks involved. At the very least make sure you have full health insurance with medical evacuation written in.

whats a british lb ?about 1.50 us??.. accommodation for the "backpacker set" is about $7-$20 us depending on what towns your in ..nha tran , sai gon, hoi an..pretty cheap..ha noi a little more expensive.. food is about the same price all over... street food[you should avoid this on most occasions] is next to nothing ..tourist type restaurants ; 3meals should cost you less $15 a day with drinks..anything other than a tourist visa is difficult.. however if you go to a tourist area ,say nha trang , go into a tourist bar , say the sail club, tell them your situation[i'm looking to hang out work a bit for a few months] they may let you work around the bar doing odd chores.. they wont pay you much [if anything , but they may get you a free room and board etc... i know a kid that did that about 8 years ago and my hand to God , he now runs the place!

it depends on where you want to live in vietnam. if you decide to live in big cities like Hanoi or Saigon, you may face some budget short problems. renting a room in Saigon is quite expensive, especially around the area for western tourist,s and it may cost you up to $30/day (considering you are planning to spend there a few months!). foods is very cheap if you buy from food stands on the streets, which i found that they are more amazing than fancy restaurants. overall, the living costs in vietnam is a lot cheaper than in uk. so, good luck!

that is going to remember on how lots you're prepared to pay for hire. I even have pals in Saigon who pay $seven hundred U.S. a month for a small townhouse and that i understand different people who pay $2500 U.S. a month for a small villa. Throw in yet another $200 for electricity, telephone/internet, gasoline, water, rubbish sequence, television provider etc. that should double or perhaps triple in accordance with how many air cons you have and how long you have them working. a sturdy housekeeper who speaks English and could cook dinner on your standards will possibly fee upwards of $200 a month. Insist on references and look at them out. Like everywhere else you purely get what you pay for. Pay peanuts, and you gets monkeys. in accordance with what your tastes are nutrition could be affordable whilst in comparison with domicile or greater costly, in accordance with how lots imported stuff you purchase. inner maximum colleges run by utilising foreigners isn't affordable. A pals son went to a prevalent college south east of Saigon and that became costing $450 a month from memory. i might propose a greater efficient option may be to set your self up in Vung Tau and commute to Saigon by utilising hydrofoil each and every day. lots greater much less costly, cleanser residing and your delivery expenses would be offset by utilising greater much less costly hire. This of direction might remember on what sort of artwork you do.
