What unpopular opinions do you hold?

What unpopular opinions or preferences, if any, do you as a shooter hold?

Do you vote Democrat/NDP? Do you hate .45 ACP?

Remember there's no such thing as an incorrect opinion. Recently I've noticed a lot of people here thumbs-downing other people for stating their opinions and I think that's silly. Let's get everything into the open, hmm?

If you get thumbs-down votes for answering this question you should take it as a point of pride. :)

Just think, "Somewhere out there some jackass is genuinely angry that not everyone agrees with him".

Update:

Here's mine: I don't like Kimber. This really seems to tick off Kimber fans as many of them seem to see their pistols as the best thing ever.

It only seems to add insult to injury when I mention I like S&W's 1911s better. I've had several Kimber fans tell me I just fell for S&W's marketing although I didn't seen any ads or articles about the pistols until AFTER I bought one...funny how that works.

Update 2:

@VLD: that made me laugh a bit, good one.

@RGD78 & killer peaches: I agree on all counts.

Update 3:

Lots of good answers, glad you guys could vent. :) There's no best answer here so I'll leave it to a vote.

    1. He's pretty bad. 2. I disagree. Abortion is not killing a baby; it's eliminating cells because that's what they are at the stage when abortion is legal. It's not a baby; it's a zygote. There is a very, very distinct difference between zygote, fetus, and infant. I also think about this one little boy I saw on the news last year. He was only three years old, the cutest thing I've ever seen, and his parents burned him with cigarettes, beat him, and drowned him. His parents didn't want him, but they couldn't afford an abortion. Maybe if they could he wouldn't have had to go through so much pain. 3. I think 16 or 17 is fine. If you're a junior in high school who's in a steady relationship with your boyfriend, you're most likely going to have sex. It shouldn't be illegal to do so. 4. Agree. 5. I agree to a point. I don't think all republicans are greedy, it just seems that way because of their demographic, and the same goes for democrats. 6. I think this is a pretty general opinion. 7. It's probably my favorite.

Haveta get a couple of things out in the open.

I got flamed on another thread because I told the precise truth about the adoption of the .308 and then the .223 by NATO.

I'm a historian by education and a student of firearms because they are the things that actually MAKE history. I am not prejudiced in favour of ANY rifle or cartridge..... but I do have opinions based on my own TESTING of these things in the last 46 years. If that makes me prejudiced, then I guess I'm prejudiced, although that does not meet the meaning of the word. I STILL think Lee-Enfields are the best bolt-action combat rifles ever made and I KNOW that the ROSS was the most accurate.

Okay, the things already on this thread. If you talk to people in the town where I live, you will find that the popular opinion is that I am 'nuts' or 'weird'.

FACT IS that I agree with almost every word said here.... and I salute most of you for having the GUTS to say it out loud.

WE are the wave of the future. Communism/Socialism/Collectivism/Political Correctness/Media-driven 'Democracy' has been tried and found wanting everywhere it has been tried out. It has failed miserably all across the old Warsaw Pact countries, it is failing today in China and Cuba, it is crumbling in its milder forms across Europe and in Canada, my country, the cracks are really starting to show. The US is behind us in adopting this garbage, but I think that one term of this current President will see a massive turn away from this type of political thinking and this will be, in the long run, better for everybody, and that includes better for America. So let's give FREEDOM and the Free Market and LOGIC a try. God knows we have tried all the illogical garbage the universities and the 'Great Thinkers' can come up with and, so far, there's nothing as efficient as the Free Market and nothing so sweet as Freedom From Government.

America is the one country in the world today where the common citizen STILL has more value than a Government Committee, where an ordinary citizen still can point to a law which ORDERS the Government out of HIS LIFE. Most of the rest of us do not have that or, if we have, it is pretty much ignored.

IF America can get back on its feet (and I have little doubt that it CAN), it will once again resume its position as the World Leader. I only hope that America doesn't (as it has done a few times in the past) confuse 'leading' with 'forcing compliance'. "Free Men work better than Slaves," it says in a novel I just finished writing. America just has to realize that you don't have to bully your Allies. If Washington can get that through its thick skull, it will be better for all of us...... and all of USA as well.

We work together best when we all are pulling in the same direction because we all want the same thing.

Right now, on this page, it all is set out: exactly what we want and, in most instances, precisely why we want it.

I guess I'm not as alone as I thought.

And as far as Dwight Guy is concerned, perhaps he can show us a place where we all can meet TO chat: then we might not be here. Good people here = good ideas - good conversation = friends. And friends are a heck of a lot better to have, than enemies.

Star Key: I also oppose the death penalty because it was used so indiscriminately in my country when we had it. One-THIRD of the people executed later were proven innocent. That's too many. On the other hand, there IS room for garbage-disposal as in the Chikatilo case in Ukraine. We have perfect candidates for this in some of our prisons right now, but I don't think it will ever happen.

Josh 2.0: you leave my cat alone, I'll leave your dog alone, but I have a buddy who gets really steamed when your 'yotes eat his calves before they are even born.

I consider .40S&W to be an unnecessary cartridge that has no practical benefits over other cartridges, and I see at as an unsafe cartridge due to the high pressures and the ease with which the bullet can be set back by feeding. This cartridge is the reason the Glock got a reputation for blowing up... They don't do that in 9x19mm.

I don't think a 1911 has any place as a modern combat pistol. It is an overly complex design that offers no benefits over more modern, more reliable, and less expensive designs. A 1911 can be made to work, but they require too much effort to get working and keep working as to make no sense monetarily.

A think the Beretta 92FS/M9 is one of the best combat handguns ever devised. It is very smooth on recoil, has decent capacity, nice safety features, is incredibly reliable, and mounts a silencer very easily.

Oh, and Bush certainly wasn't be best President the world has ever seen.... But honestly, the guy tried and didn't do so bad. We had a major catastrophe early in his presidency. He reacted to it the best way he could and kept us afloat economically through that. He had shortcomings, but overall we came out OK. People have to quit blaming him eventually... He didn't spill the oil into the gulf, as some people have suggested....

Oh, and I don't blame BP for anyone. BP is the name of a company... It's two letters representing the words British Petroleum. That phrase is not capable of performing any action. We either need to accept that this was an accident, and clean it up without getting out the torches and pitch forks.... Or, we need to lay the blame on an actual person that caused it, if that is the case, and we can go on a witch hunt after them. Ruining an entire company because one person, or a few people, made stupid decisions or cut corners doesn't make any sense and punishes people who had nothing to do with what happened.

I have personally yet to find a use for any rifle cartridge containing the word "magnum". And laugh at those who think these are necessary for deer (having one for dual purpose deer and larger game is fine). However I love the big 3 revolver cartridges (.357, .41, .44)

I think polymer handguns and synthetic stocks while they do have a purpose are as ugly as can be.

For most uses give me a 16 ga any day!

I have a fascination with the older, less common cartridges, but do not own any yet as rifles chambered as such are a pain to find.

My idea of the best practical joke ever is to strap some antlers onto a jersey calf and let it run on the opener, preferably in an area full of flatlanders.

More often than not I vote for the Libertarian

I believe that the justice system should focus more on the criminal being held responsible to the victim rather than the state, as that will make them actually think about the damage and consequences of their actions. Yet have no problem with publicly hanging murderers, rapists, child molesters, etc.

I would have the government held to only spending and making laws that are specifically allowed by the constitution

All welfare and associated help needs to be run by private charities. They are willing and more able to screen out those who cannot help themselves from those who simply won't. They know that if their donations get routinely misspent they will dry up. Drug screening is more likely to happen, and they are able to ask for help in return if the recipient is physically able. Even something as simple as asking some of the recipients to help clean the charity's office or do some yardwork for someone who's physically unable will weed out a lot of freeloaders right there. Something like this would help ensure that help goes to only those who truly need it and eliminate a lot of the abuses tat naturally occur with "free money"

I honestly don't care what other people do as long as they are not harming or infringing upon the rights or property of others. Although there are plenty of things that I wish people would keep to themselves.

I have no use for whiners, they are the classic example of someone who seems to think that things are automatically entitled to them.

I have more respect for the Mexicans who are willing to come an take whatever work they can find and make something of themselves than I do for a lot of Americans (see previous rant). We just need to do something about them running over illegally. I say fence the border off and greatly simplify the visa requirements to background check, contagious disease screen, and must remain employed for 9 out of the 12 months a year, or else they go back.

I actually love my Judge, just have a hard time finding practical uses for it, but it sure is fun to plink around with.

I can't figure out for the life of me why such a noise conscious society makes it such a PITA to obtain a suppressor. One would think that these would be welcomed.

After seeing so many warning labels on almost everything that state the obvious, I think just to prove a point we should place a class action lawsuit against the lawyers responsible for making us people with common sense feel like dumb@$$es. I don't have any interest in money from this lawsuit just want to prove a point.

I see meth as being natural selection finding a way to come back to our population after the warning labels tried slowing it down.

I've always seen the .308 as a rather pointless cartridge. Yes I know it's popular and does it's job well, just never found a use for it that wasn't easily equaled or bettered by something else.

I've often wondered why people and the DNR here want hunters to let little bucks go, yet will sell 2 buck tags and make the does tags a lottery. Just encourages people to shoot the spike instead of a old fat doe. make your minds up!

I think mustard is really gross

I dislike PSE compound bows, they are cheaply made and i have seen them fail over and over. I am a hardcore Republican. That way of thinking is completely irrational. I generally don't give "thumbs-downs", however when I do it isn't because someone doesn't agree with me, but because i don't agree with them. (think about that for a while) I dislike Kimber as well. Rock River Arms are the best guns for the money in my opinion. S&W's 1911's are very good quality, but I would much rather have a 1911 by Rock River. They are just as dependable and accurate for much less money. Springfield's 1911's are great too, but Rock River is basically a shoot off of Springfield Gun Company anyway.

    1. I am a Democrat. I believe the 2nd Amendment can't be modified, despite the fact that today's technology was unimaginable when it was written, but they also expected that day would come sooner or later.

    2. I hate the NRA, because they have an agenda far beyond gun owner's right.

    3. No matter how many thumbs down or thumbs up I get, I will still have to go to work, still have to pay taxes, still worry about my weight, etc. What someone else thinks of me will not change who I am.

    4. I have seen "normal looking" white people (like me) who I'd expect to act better pull a 9mm from a waistband and menace unarmed people. I've seen thuggish black men who'd you'd expect to be armed and quick to brandish a gun or even shoot someone, have nothing more than than a Bible as their only weapon. Don't judge a book by its cover and don't generalize about any group.

Despite what you may think, through my political affiliation and work I know well over 100 "hardcore" liberals and not one of them believes in taking away guns from law abiding citizens. Some may believe in regulating certain types of guns, but so long as you are sane and law abiding, they believe you should have whatever you want. A lot of "bitter clingers" just refuse to believe that and insist on creating enemies out of people who really aren't.

I think America needs to stop playing so nice. The bad guys are NOT going to play nice for us, so we shouldn't play nice back. I would like to start with the .223 round the military is using. I am not old fashioned, so I don't think a it is neccesary to use a huge bullet, my motto is "SPEED KILLS" so I think we need to load the rounds hotter (faster). I know for a fact you can make these .223 bullets SCREAMIN. And I do not support the full metal jacket round. As an avid hunter, I know that a full metal jacket will go right through something, so I say use a different bullet. Will it make a bigger entrance and exit wound, hell yes and that's good. Intimidation is half of the threat, and if your buddy can't hold water anymore, well that's intimidating. The bad guys are shooting .308 rounds at us through those AK's, so lets send some heavier power right back to them. Thanks for the vent.

Lawyers and Politicians should be lined up and publicly flogged for what they've done to the public good. The traitorous ones should be fired against cement walls out of circus cannons.

Nanny State my ****! Try sandal footed fringe wearing ex-hippy petty anal dictators.

Love the modern weapons. I do wonder about the field use ability of those range shooters I see spending hours test shooting. Rifle secure on a rest, range scope near by and constant fiddling with the scope sights. Never picking up and actually holding the AR-15 clone. What's the point? Respect the guys who heft the rifle and then adjust them.

Yes, it's your rifle! Sporterize it if you want.

Antique revolver in hand of trained shooter can defend better than a new 40SW in the hand of a newbie.

I voted for Ralph Nader. He's a long way from Ronaldus Magnus. BUT At least he has always stood his ground. Better someone who believes he's right and stands by those beliefs. Verses someone who says one thing and does the opposite.

The ACLU, EPA, SPLC, PETA and a few other "agencies" should be forcibly disbanded. Their entire staffs imprisoned.

Harvard and other Colleges should come with their own warning labels WARNING The education received here in WILL degrade both your morality and your understanding of what this proud United States of America stands for. E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust and Liberty NOT instructed here in. You will come out a brain washed, amoral socialist "world" citizen.

I believe gays have the right to wreck their lives just as fast as possible. As long as they don't interfere with my right to wreck my own.

I like desert eagles, I own one and love to shoot it.

I think glocks are ugly as sin and feel like crap in my hand.I would never spend 500+ dollars on one when I can purchase a gun that is just as reliable and not made of polymer.

I dislike big caliber rifles such as 243 and bigger, I just hate having guns that kick like a mule and cost $40 for a box of 20 cartridges.

I think felons that were not involved in gun crimes should be able to own and operate a gun after there sentence and probation is up.One of my friends is a felon for blowing up a cop car when he was 16 , now he is 25 and a supervisor where I work. So why wont this country let him protect his home and be able to hunt and provide for his family is beyond me.

thank you for letting us vent. I am sure I can think of more but it would take all day to write them
