About computers, black screens, and hard drives...?
My computer screen has died on me (the computer still boots up fine- the screen is blank/black though) and I'm pretty sure there's issues with either the graphics card or the monitor. Now I've had this crappy computer for a while now and I'm wondering whether it would be cheaper to have it looked at (how much would that cost?) or buy a new computer for around 400 bucks (if I bought a new computer, how much would it cost to get the files off my old hardrive and put 'em on my new computer?).

hey there may be various reasons..
A)
do u get a beep sound while booting?? if so, then ur RAM or CMOS batter has a problem. remove the cabinet , take the ram module out and wipe it, blow the socket from where u took the ram module.. fix it back and try booting.. if in beeps again change ur CMOS battery...
B)
may be the problem is with ur os... try repairing/restore( in case u have a recovery disk) it with the os disk...
C)
do u dual boot with linux... if so u may hav to reload the GRUB with the live session disk.....
google the procedures to do it....
D)
even if some hard ware is loosely connected, you may get this problem....

I think if you have well performing PC, it is better to look a graphics card that matches with PCI slot on your computer motherboard. So, getting a new graphics card will solve this.
If you want to buy a new pc you can hook your hard drive as a secondary disk and restore your files easily (no cost in doing this). Actually, it depends on the type of hard drive you have in your computer.
I hope this helps!

Did you try an external monitor for the time bieng??.
You can get usb H/Drive enclosure for 10$ at tiger direct, put the drive in there after you get your new laptop. Its not that hard to do yourself just read up a littel bit on it or have the niebors teenager do it
Or bring it in to them and tell them you need the drive put in a external enclosure. Stay away from bestbuy--- the same eneclosure at bestbuy is 70$
