Would you read my poem, then look at the link, then write your own?

Fog lifts off

the water's still surface

ray of light strikes,

a reflection revealed

of the old wooden gate

swung open in haste

and my heart stalls at

the loss of you...

until

Out of nowhere,

a black raven

drops from the sky

and catches my eye,

he circles and glides

then takes his goodbye

with a dip of his wing

as though he did wink

And I knew you had made it

to the far other side,

where you were free to be

both there and with me.

    The Secret Star

I can still feel cool air's haunches

    twitching at the barren branches

though muddy, the ground continues solid

right up to the river, squalid.

The clouds phalanx from west to east

the farther bank a shadow of dark trees

my jacket cannot fully block the cold,

and nature makes me feel quite old.

I see arcane symbols in the branching swirls

of water, wind and wood, familiar curls

of truth that I no longer care to read

I did when I was younger, I believe.

And soaring over the water's sinking mud,

a silent bird who bypasses the flood.

from tree to tree he plies his curious way

what knowledge he retains he did not say

But off he flies my silent solemn teacher

he knows my path more so than any creature

he is the spirit divine that soars above

and greets me dark clad, as a grieving dove.

The moldy clouds give way to leaden black

the raven's gone but I can see his track.

The scene forlorn, the same as once was I

but you're my secret star now in the sky.

[Thanks for the beautiful image to work from.]

First thing I want to say is that poem sound so pure and full of love. Is very beautiful indeed. Love is pain, everyone knows it, but if u will save in ur heart the goods that love gives u, u will be rich in heart and soul.

Sheesh ma, you don' ASK, you TASK! LMBO However, I cannot get to this alleged beautiful picture/image; the network nazis here at work have me filtered away! The cool thing is, though, that the IDEAL picture is already here. The smile in your avatar fits so well with this write you might think it pre-selected for this very purpose! You are one very contented-lookin' ma there ma! And you've left your readers contented as well...even inspired HH out of his typical reverie to something substantially more productive!

Your beautiful poem has me thinking again of the father I never knew (he died just weeks before I was born), and the sister I did not know well enough before she, too, reached the Other Side.

The last two lines evoke both a sense of yearning and a feeling of comforting warmth. They are more than worthy of sympathetic tears.

Thank you for sharing that with us!

(None of my words can hope to compare with such wonderful writing)

What did you do for the poem, raven,

why are you found so frequently in verse?

Was it simply the repetition of 'Nevermore'

    to accompany poor Poe's curse?

Or is it your piercing black eye

that peers into the immortal soul

    making the truth hit hard

as the bell begins to toll?

I have a child begging for the computer, so I'll give her another turn. Need to do some cleaning anyway. Still, the image was beautiful, as was your poem, Sue. BBL

Out of nowhere your elegy sings to me

The shadows approach and I see.

It's you reaching for my embrace,

but when I touch, away you race.

Always the haunt to my dreams

I wish it was how it seems.

Not very good, but it's something I guess.

Hope you enjoy reading my offering to you.

Condolences to the recently departed, surely they are somewhere nice.

    As the Deaths met

    over the gate,

I saw a reflection of what will

    be;

the gallows of time and sorrow

    for me

I know and have experienced what you wrote. They are lucky to have you ! I especially love ..."where you were free to be both there and with me."This is what life is, having people you love and that the ties that bind are never broken.Love is eternal.

I saw an angel carrying your soul

    through the gates of Glory...

The sun shone brightly on your robe

as you danced with loved ones from your yesterdays

knowing that someone waited to dance again with you....
