Is my fish sick or is this normal?

I have a pond with 3 goldfish (comets) and 2 koi. I got them all at the same time, but one of the koi is almost 2ce as big as the other, even though they were the same size at time of purchase. The people at Hugh's Water Gardens said I had too many fish, but that if I installed a filter it would be all right. I got the size they recommended; they said I didn't need the next larger size.

The fish seem to be all right–no odd behavior or anything, but the larger koi seems to have markings I hadn't noticed before. It is like an orange lined down its spine. It is very faint and narrow, and pretty much only along the dorsal fin. Is this fish all right?

could be natural color you didn't notice before, i work with a pond company and we sell koi and the do change color after awhile when they grow, the way you describe it it doesn't sound like any bacterial infection i know, and its not a parasite nor is it ick so i wouldn't worry, watch for any weird things like flashing (when they swim up to a rock and then quickly Vere away) and jumping. if you want to be on the safe side put the fish in a large bucket with 3% salt solution.

My friend also has a Koi pond and has 1 bigger fish than all the others with the same markings you described. Those markings happened over a year ago and the fish is still fine. We were worried too but just watched it closely.

Fish, especially goldfish and koi, change color as they grow and develop. I'd guess it's nothing to worry about. Just watch his behavior.

Source(s): When I bought my goldfish as a "baby" he was an inch long and nearly completely brown. Now he's 2 inches and orange with brown freckles.

Your tank might lack oxygen and the fish is swimming to the suitable to get oxygen. i'm hoping you dont have them in a form of jars or bowls Fish might desire to be in a tank with a bubble and a heater.
