Way to deal with weight issues with 7yr old?
My 7yr old has always been on the chucky side every since she was born. (My son who is 5 has been on the too thin/tiny side)
The kids are home for Summer with Dad while Im working. In just a week she has kept busy. And not asking for food out of boredom. She says she is always hungry, She can eat. .(she will eat 3-4 slices of pizza if shes alloowed to) And being my child of course I dont want to not give in to her but we know I cant now. Daddy is more strict of course.
Her height Id say is normal if not taller for her classmates. Her weight is about 80lbs.
Theres another chunky girl in her class but for the most past they all are skinny.
She has mentioned to me about her weight. So we have talked to her about and are doing what we can...Food choices have been better. And she is getting more active now that school is out and we have her doing more things, and she learned ot ride a two wheel bike!

You could try cooking with her, instead of buying a pizza you could make one. It would be much healthier and she would probably enjoy making it.
Another idea is to get her to eat fruit but dont just shove a pear or apple etc. in her face and expect her to eat it maybe you could melt some chocolate and dip the fruit in to make it more 'child friendly' :)
You could go on day trips out to the park, bike rides and maybe an organised sport. It may also help if you get involved as well as she will find it more fun.

It is something in the gut. He may not be absorbing nutrients (hair loss, weight loss etc.) It could be related to the pancreas or just an inability to absorb certain nutrients as he ages. Then there could be a blockage in the intestines (could be benign or not) and that would cause the slow intestinal movement and poor absorption of food which means weight loss. Have the vet run a blood test - forget the name of it but it is pretty accurate on detecting malignancies. A stool anaylsis would be a good idea. If there is a blockage, the only way to real tell conclusively is xrays and/or ultrasounds. Try going to a higher fat food - one of the premium performance foods that are more digestable and more concentrated. Check Eagle (Pak?)Pack and Diamond that both make performance foods. (My preferred is Caribou Creek Gold but it (1) only comes in a 40 lb bag which feeds a 115 lb dog for 4 weeks and (2) it has to be ordered from the folks that make it and shipped to you as it is not sold at retail.) Add some oil to his diet - maybe corn oil if he will eat it (mine never have) or olive oil. Best would be fish oil capsules. You can get them a health food store for less than a pet supplier charges. Given his size, get the lowest possible dose and only give him one every 2-3 days or better yet, open the capsule and pour 1/2 - 1/3 at most on his food.

Buy lots of fruits and vegetables. Don't give her a lot of carbs (bread, pasta, etc.). When she asks for the third or fourth piece of pizza, say no. If she's hungry, give her a snack like an apple instead of a cookie. Sign her up for some sports - she might find something she really likes, and she'll get some exercise. Cut down on the desserts. For lunch, give her something like a sandwich, some fruit/veggies, and three cookies instead of a sandwich, six cookies, a bag of chips, etc.

That isn't too bad for a 7 yr old..but eat healthier as a family. Keep her busy with board games, her bike, etc. Try involving her with the making of healthy food. Also, give her a small reward when she doesn't eat something bad.

dont order as much pizza, eat healthier as a family, and go to the park more often with your kids. parents i would think are the #1 cause of obesity beside fast food. you, as a parent, dont have to buy junk food, but people get into the habit of it because they eat it so much. its not even like healthy food taste nasty. it tastes great, and your kids(most kids) need to leard that. along with that, maybe help get active enough so she can join a sports team like soccer wich will help a LOT.

keep her eating healthy and being active. ask her doctor if she's got some kind of hormonal imbalance that might contribute to her weight. if she's always hungry, offer her fruits and raw vegetables that she can eat more of and not gain weight. some kids are just chunkier than others and need to learn to watch what they eat.

You are her mother so this is entirely down to you. You need to get only healthy food and get her to run around a lot more.
