What is the average cost to recharge a car's A/C?

About $100 - my son paid $94 a couple years ago for an Acura.

The DIY kits are trouble waiting to happen. In the days of R12 (before 1994 or 1995) recharging at home was easy - the A/C got colder as more freon was put in and there was usually a "sight gauge" that would clear of bubbles when the charge was good enough. The best way was with a set of gauges, and even a single gauge on the low pressure side was okay. R134a is a whole different animal. I learned the hard way (stubborn!) that what the pros say is true - it can only be properly charged by evacuating the system and putting the proper weight of refrigerant in. Overcharging can damage or destroy the compressor. The first source, which I came across after my misadventure, explains why I failed.

DIY kits are safe and cheaper then if you take it to a shop. But why would you take your vehicle to a shop to have something done when you can do it yourself.If you follow instruction and do it step by step you will be okay.But they are correct if you are low in refrigerant then you most have a leak.If this is the case there is uv dye that you can use to locate the leak and then make an educated decision on wheter or not you can fix it your self or need to replace a component Everything you need to work on your vehicles ac system is at any local auto parts stores.There is a web site with very helpful information about your vehicles ac system check the link below.Good Luck

I'm inquiring for a friend of mine who has a 2006 Jeep Laredo. She wants to recharge her A/C. What is the average cost she should expect if she has it professionally done?

Or are the DIY kits just as effective? Are they cost efficient and easy to use? She's going on a trip this weekend and wants to make sure it's working

first there is a problem to be solved the system is at fault if freon is low,a professional needs to test to identify the leak,no idea about cost until this issue is solved,sorry.
