No, why would it? It's a physical mess that needs to be cleaned up, but otherwise the economic ramifications are pretty limited.

BP spent a billion dollars of oil profit so far to stop the oil leak. They will probably spend another 5 billion over time. That's money that might have otherwise left the country.

The local fishing industry and tourism will suffer. That's money that may still be spent elsewhere in the country.

Overall I think it depends on how many people in the US own BP stock. They are the ones paying for the cleanup.

My guess NO double dip recession because of the oil spill.

No. What guarantees a double dip recession is:

    Huge stimulus packages.

    Huge deficits.

    Huge new government programs.

The federal government adding jobs faster than the private sector.

    A jobless recovery.

This is all based on historical fact you simply have to search on Japan's lost decade which happened in the 1980's!

No, the second "dip" was guaranteed by the stimulus package.

Obama did nothing to fundamentally improve the economy. The only thing he did was set up an illusion of economic progress. The illusion is gone, and the economy is now resuming it's January 2009 position.

    Sigh

If anything, it guarrantees an act of war on mother nature who provides life also for the non human

    inhabitants of the seas.

Remember also that having been gifted by intelligent DNA from the gods (You were created in my image) Mankind had promised to look after the other creatures .

So a biblical promise that means a lot to out own eco system and balance in this planet.

    was not fulfilled.

    Another lie?

"whatsoever you do to the least of my creatures you do unto Me."

No, but it doesn't help matters. If gas prices go up then the economy will be affected. and now lots of people down there will be out of work.

No... I don't see the oil spill really hurting the economy.

The stimulus package is working. Contrary to what the doom and gloomers are saying, GDP is going up.

I'd like to see it spawn a movement creating jobs in new energy industries like wind power, geothermal power, etc...

    However, I don't think that's very likely.

    Yup

No. The Obama policies already guaranteed that.
