Does anyone else despise the word..?

Dyke? I'm talking more to lesbians because it's more lesbian specifc obviously haha. I just hate the word, I mean i know it doesn't have as negative connotations as it used to but it's still horrible in my opinion. What is your opinion?

Frankly, I find it to be a little bit empowering. When you hear a girl described as a butch dyke, you just know that no one wants to screw with her. It's a very strong word.

I'm a femme and I doubt anyone would use the word to describe me, but I wouldn't react too badly if they did. Maybe a raised eyebrow and a flash of the old biceps. :)

I'm not lesbian or Bi, so I dont really have personal feelings about it. But it seems like nowadays alot lesbians like to be refered to as "dyke" and are starting to call themselves that. Kind of like the N word. It's a bad word, yet some Black people always call each other that, but if non bkack guy says it, it's racist. All these Double Standards confuse me. But yes, it does sound derogatory, or at least when it copmes to me, I would never refer to a lesbian as a "dyke" weither or not they liked it, beacuse personally I view it as kind of like another N word. Just beacuse you like to use it, doesn't mean I do.

I don't like it when anyone uses it in a derogatory way but when it's used by people in the LGBT community, I don't really mind it. The intent of a word gives it meaning, not the word itself. Actually, as a word, I find it to be kind of sexy, especially when it's used in bed ;)

I hate it when heterosexual people say it in a derogatory way. But for some reason it turns me on when my girlfriend calls me that. I don't mind the LGBTQ community using it for fun.

I don't mind when members of the LGBT community use it, because I know they aren't being hateful. But I do hate it when obnoxious homophobes do.

I get embarrassed when people use it in my presence, it seems like a real derogatory term.

I hate it too. It's an insult, like f.a.g.g.o.t.
