How are Catholics dealing with the growing number of cases of ‘popophobia,’ fear of the pope?

The upper echelon of power holders within the Catholic Church knew they were taking a big gamble by appointing Ratso as the pope. They wanted someone conservative and traditional because they thought this would be more appealing to the dwindling number of religious people in today’s world. For some people it was more appealing but for many others, it was frightening. Now the Catholic Church has a dire situation on its hands – outbreaks of popophobia. It’s so bad that if people suffering from popophobia catch even one glimpse of an old man in a dress, red shoes and a silly hat, they start shivering uncontrollably, hiding behind other people and sometimes even soiling themselves. How are the Catholics dealing with this crisis?

    Amazing how you can lie so much in just one little question.

    + Popophobia +

    There is no such thing as ‘popophobia’. However you do seem to be a good example of Christianophobia which is an irrational fear or hatred of Christians, or Christianity in general. Here is an interesting article about Christianophobia: http://www.catholic.org/international/internationa...

    + Religious People +

    The number of religious people and Catholics in particular is growing not dwindling. According to the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate at Georgetown University, the worldwide population of Catholics is as large as it ever has been and is still growing:

    1970 = 653,600,000

    1975 = 709,600,000

    1980 = 783,700,000

    1985 = 852,000,000

    1990 = 928,500,000

    1995 = 989,400,000

    2000 = 1,045,000,000

    2005 = 1,115,000,000

    2007 = 1,147,000,000

    And in the U.S.:

    1965 = 45,600,000

    1975 = 48,700,000

    1985 = 52,300,000

    1995 = 57,400,000

    2000 = 59,900,000

    2005 = 64,800,000

    2009 = 65,200,000

    <<How are Catholics dealing with the growing number of cases of ‘popophobia,’ fear of the pope?>>

    There is no "popophobia (fear of the pope)" in the Catholic Church.

    <The upper echelon of power holders within the Catholic Church knew they were taking a big gamble by appointing Ratso as the pope.>>

    Who's "Ratso"?

    <<They wanted someone conservative and traditional because they thought this would be more appealing to the dwindling number of religious people in today’s world.>>

    No. The the Catholic Church is constantly in a state of growth.

    <<For some people it was more appealing but for many others, it was frightening.>>

    "Ill-at-ease" is more accurate a description, and it's perfectly understandable. After so long a reign from Pope John Paul II, people were understandably concerned over which direction the "new" pope would take the Church.

    <<Now the Catholic Church has a dire situation on its hands – outbreaks of popophobia.>>

    There has never been an age when the Church wasn't experiencing a "dire situation". Also, there is no "popphobia" in the Church currently.

    <<It’s so bad that if people suffering from popophobia catch even one glimpse of an old man in a dress, red shoes and a silly hat, they start shivering uncontrollably, hiding behind other people and sometimes even soiling themselves.>>

    Now I KNOW that there is no "popophobia" ANYWHERE - because I haven't seen a single person do any of those things, and I am an active practicing Catholic, whereas you are not!

    <<How are the Catholics dealing with this crisis?>>

    There is no "popophobia crisis".

    <<Catholics, do you have self belief that the Pope is sinless?>> No. the thought that popes are sinless isn't an component of Catholic Dogma. you could properly be difficult that with while the pope speaks "ex cathedra" on concerns on the subject of religion and Morals, the instructions are Infallible. <<I only questioned if Catholics theory that the Pope became sinless as a results of fact i in my opinion think of that all human beings sins. i be conscious of that the Pope is meant to be organic as in not having intercourse, yet does this decide for organic recommendations too?>> because none persons are recommendations readers, you could not decide a pope's recommendations. extra to the component, none persons can study the hearts of others. only God can do this, so such judgments must be left as much as God. <<Do you think of that the Pope has in no way had an impure theory?>> Who is familiar with? <<as a results of fact in the Bible it says: Blessed are the organic in coronary heart for they're going to see God - Matthew 5:8. So is this what you have self belief?>> sure.

    I know that there are some Catholics who do not like the personality of the guy and because of this "cover up" (it is unfortunate), but there isn't any phobia against him. Give me proof that there are people that there are people that are "shivering uncontrollably, hiding behind other people and sometimes soiling themselves." I'll be waiting.

    Turning into atheists as like I did when I went to a private catholic school and prayed to mother mary with a rosary???????I could sure get into more detail about catholics but my answer would get reported, so I'll leave it at that. Not Biblical at all. After you experience that , you can't help but become an atheist.......until you find the real Truth. JESUS. I am a Christian now.

    well since the majority of CAtholics have a brain and have no problem with the pope... we really don't care as it's only the idiotic non-catholics who seem to have an issue with him. that is as stupid as people caring about whomever runs any organization to which the have no concerns.

    Probably sex therapy and breeding like rabbits which is nice because some of us can't have children to send to church for abuse, or anywhere that is clearly open for abuse these days.

    Source(s): I am sure many Catholics are not as bad as the press gives them credit, just bad eggs giving everyone a bad press, same old story people are judged by their beliefs even if their beliefs preach committals to non-judgement. And personally I have nothing against people believing what they want as long as they don't interfere with others basic human rights. In the case of Catholicism there has clearly been a breach of conduct but knowing they would get found out I wonder who put them up to it? And smell more conspiracy in that another thing, why does the Pope wear all the paraphenalia of devil worshipping? Ex-Nazi boy's club? Its all too strange.

    I'm getting just a little tired of all these attacks on the Pope, accepted he is an ex-Nazi paedophile supporter but compared to the decrepid bigotted lunatic he succeeded he's a bit of a revelation and he doesn't dribble.
