Actually a few weeks back I got a chance to see those films of which I did not knew before. Actually those films are my favourite and I was thrilled to see those films. I don't know much about gore films (saw etc.), but, for films set in antiquity I can highly recommend the following:
Gladiator
Sparticus (1960)
if you have the patience to watch it, Samson & Delilha (1949) is an absolute classic, the ending is epic, well acted even if the special effects are bland by today's standards.
