What exactly does it mean for our lives to have "meaning"?

What is "meaning" and why is it so important?

What "meaning" does religion bestow on life?

Thanks in advance

Do you really want to go there. Yopu do know the phrasing common era was likely coined by christrians. In any case, it's not christ era it's christian era. It's no secret that christians have dominated the planet militarily for the last 2000 years. even when the "BC" designation was popular it simply confirmed what everyone already knew, the romans decided to make their calendars coincide with their new found religion. I'm sure if muslims take over they will chaznge the calendars to suit their beliefs and that will make it no more or less valid.

I think "meaning" has to do with how much emotion we attach to something. Someone might care very much about having children, and then children would become part of the meaning of one's life. The meaning of someone's life may be seen though someone else's eyes as well, as in how one person's long-term actions affected someone else.

There is a difference in living of a Life and Life to be lived. Living of a life which adds to the quality of life, living and conditions that support quality living of life in general (co-existence) is meaningful life. No life in isolation, independent of other forms of life around and materials supporting life is ever possible. Therefore living of life that enrich interdependence, cooperation, coexistence and supports enriching living conditions is a live worth living and can be said as meaningful life.

"Meaning" can only be gleaned from one person's perspective...there is no universal meaning to anything. Religion only gives meaning to those who value it, and no two people feel the same sense of meaning concerning it. The only "meaning" that means anything is the one that you supply to your own life.

It means having something in our life that our hearts, minds, and wills can rest in an be happy - and not an activity for the mere sake of something else.

Meaning is the purpose we give ourselves.

And to some people, it's not that important.

That's why there are so many non-thinking lazyasses in America today.

Well........life is a gift and with all gifts there is an attached message. Does the gift satisfy our deepest desire? Is the gift a kind of left handed slap in the face? Or is the gift of mystery left only for us to understand its meaning? For me, the gift of life is the opportunity to chose between joining the Army of Darkness or the Legion of Light. I have joined the Legion of Light. As for your situation, your life, your adventure. Peace to all sentient beings...........
