My baby won`t lift his head during tummy time ?

My son is 15 weeks, 4 months next Friday and we are having so much trouble getting him to lift his head, or push himself up onto his forearms, it`s unbelievable . We`ve tried lots of different things, getting down there with him and playing with his toys, putting a musical toy within his sight then slowly raising it and we give him tummy time 4 times a day most days . I have a public health nurse and she pretty much said in not so many words that we`re neglectful towards playing with him, regardess of the fact that he rolls himself onto his sides, and he has great neck strength ( he can already sit up in his high chair ) I`d appreciate any suggestions, because we`re at our wits end and I need to get this public health nurse off my behind and prove her wrong .

Thanks in advance .

Forget what everyone says to you about your child or about you parenting I have three little ones and every baby is different. No matter what you do at least your baby is happy and healthy then you are doing a good job don't let those overbearing parents or people tell you other wise if you are truly concern please talk to a pediatrician then you will know for sure. I am sure you little boy is okay and just doesn't enjoy tummy time that is okay too I remember for my first baby I didn't even do tummy time and my son is four now and doing everything normal and is happy and healthy as a bug. Good luck and just enjoy your baby and be amazed.

All my babies absolutely hated lying on their stomachs and would not/could not hold their heads up for more than a few seconds when placed in that position. They grew into normal healthy children with no developmental problems whatsoever.

My suggestion is that you ignore the public health nurse from now on. Forget about trying to get your baby to do what he doesn't like and you just relax and enjoy playing with him the way he is happiest. You know instinctively that there is nothing wrong with your child, he probably just isn't going to have a rugby player's neck.

There are always theories about what is the correct thing to do with babies and they change over time. So stop worrying if what your baby likes is not in accord with current theory. It just might be that in 20 years time new research will show that babies who didn't lift their heads at 3 1/2 months couldn't because they were heavier due to above average brain development.

My son didn't start untill he was about 18 weeks and he was litterally running at 9 months. As a matter of fact once he started, he refused to stay on his tummy longer than 10 seconds before crying. I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it. Just keep trying, but they get tired easy so try the sides and back too during tummy time to give them some relief.

Honestly my girl is 4 months old and is the same way! It cracks me up.. we give her tummy time daily and although she will lift her head most times it only lasts a few seconds then she will lay there and stare and laugh at toys with her head down.. maybe it's just a phase our kids are going through?? lol

I wouldn't worry to much just keep doing the tummy time.. not lifting his head is not neglectful.. kids will do things on their own schedule not ours.
