My hair metal band of the day (take1)?

I do really do not care what you want to call it, hard rock, hair metal, glam metal, pop metal, AOR or sleaze metal, (I have alway used the term hair metal and will here) this is one of the sub-genres that got me into metal and I have always felt it has always been either disrespected or just flat out ignored by the metal community. I enjoy listening and have the same passion for these bands as I do the for all the metal bands that I listen to (which is a ton).

That being said, I am going to feature an entire band instead of just one song. I feel that too many people have dismissed this genre based on listening to the one or two songs a band might have had on the radio or headbangers ball back in the day instead of looking deeper into the band. I have found in most cases the popular songs are usually the bands worst.

My band of the day is Dangerous Toys. They orignated in Austin, Texas and originally were a female fronted band called Onyx but after some issues with the singer they brought in Watchtower vocallist Jason McMaster changed their name and Dangerous Toys with their southern blues influenced style was formed. These songs are from their first 3 albums (they only had 4)

Took me a while to get here.. so now I will peruse your picks and let ya know......

Dangerous Toys.. I do remember them actually.. that mascot is easy to place.....

Scared- Decent but great track. Truth to tell it sounded a lot like a Poison clone it almost all regards. I happen to like Poison to some extent, so that ain't all bad, but does illustrate one of my biggest issues with GLAM and (and truth to tell most genres.. for some reason just was a bigger turn off with GLAM, maybe because it got so much more airplay) the like. Still, not a bad track.

Queen of the Nile - Hmmm... similar feeling, though the vocals are far less Poison-esque this song. I think one of the reasons I never considered GLAM Metal overall, was when you listen to the drum/bass combo, for instance on this song, they are very stock Rock n Roll... and there is almost nothing that jumps out from the riffs. I Always seemed like most GLAM was Hard Rock with Heavy Metal style lead guitar parts and solos, and high pitched screaming vocals. Not bad.. just very very few ever sound .. well.. heavy to me. Does not really matter in the end.. to me I really only care if the song sounds good or not, for the most part. Metal/Hard Rock and whatnot is mostly for cataloging purposes.

    Gypsy (Black 'N' Blue Valentine)

OK.. this one I remember... and I like it. The chorus always felt a little clunky, but the rest of the song was good enough to cover it up, and to me it sounded less like all the other GLAM bands out at the time.

    P*ssed

Really liked this track. Seems like they had finally found their own voice by this album, and had a nice late 70s feel to it overall, a little grittier than their earlier stuff. Jason seemed to have given up on the radio friendly attempts of singing on the earlier posts and just went back to singing like he usually does.. which is a big plus. Strongest riff/rhythm of any of the tracks listed, nice drum tempo. Good track. I might have to hunt up this album.

    Loser

Strong Southern Rock influence on this song. I could just as easily see Great White cranking it out as any other band. Not a bad thing, just my initial reaction. Probably my second favorite of the songs posted.

MQ2- The Sword at the moment is the first one I love that jumps to mind.. but I know I had noticed several bands i like recently were from Texas.. just without looking em up would be hard to remember which.

MQ3- I do to some degree. Ummmmm... well most say for ages 5 and up.. so I guess they might be a choking hazard.....

(I also collect guns.. while they acre certainly NOT toys, they ARE very dangerous.

BQ- I like this format. I think often one song can give a false impression.. I do it mostly for simplicity on mine.. and because I am pretty sure most folks on here have ADHD. But giving 3-5 songs can give a nice cross section to listen to, and form an opinion.

MA: I like Deadly Metal a lot instrumentally but the vocals get a bit annoying. But, nice riffage and cool licks. 10,000 Lovers has good riffs and licks too, but it would be much cooler if they kicked it up a notch and kept the vocals more aggressive. Just Like God has a weird feeling which I went to describe but I can't. It's catchy, but other than that and the intro+outro there's nothing too interesting about it. I do like the album cover though. Give Me A Sign is surprisingly really good. I like how it progresses both instrumentally and vocally. Really cool solo too. Atlantis starts off with a very weird riff. The song sounds like it could've been good but turned out really messy. MA2: Judas Priest. Sometimes it has worked, sometimes it didn't. MA3: Sure. Sorry I haven't been answering any. It's just that hair metal is not something I'm too fond of. Perhaps your Qs can change that. BA: You haven't lived till you've tried some Lahori fried fish.

MQ: pretty solid band, I especially enjoyed P*ssed, but I doubt I'd go and buy an album

MQ2: I'll have to do some looking, 'cause off the top of my head I can only think of ZZ Top and Pantera, and I don't like either.

...wow, I got all the way to the W's on my Ipod before I found one, Weaken The Adversary:

MQ3: when I was little I got a lego piece stuck in my nose... does that count?

BQ: It depends on whether or not you have enough bands, if so, I say it would be better to feature a band

MA: Pretty cool. My favorite part of all glam metal songs is undoubtedly, the guitar solos. And i was not disappointed. Loser and Scared were pick of the tracks.

MA2: SRV, ZZ Top, Janis Joplin (All that i can think right now).

    BA: Band would be better.
