I heard mention of a website done by proper reporters, maybe blog is more accurate where the current events of the day are well summarized... In an interview I believe one of the creators said the name came from a book.

This might not be the one you were talking about but http://www.newser.com/ is a website that summarizes news stories into a concise 2 paragraphs. You still have to read the headlines, decide what to delve into, read the shorter story, and decide if you want to read the whole thing.
