Why is it that??????

I have answered over 300 questions, am now a "top contributor" and tend to have a "best answer" rate around 20%, but I have never asked a question, but this one mystifies me.

Why do people ask such stupid questions here? I'm not talking about the ones that are obviously being asked by teenagers like, "my house is on fire, what should I do?" but more along the lines of "My A/C doesn't work. What's wrong with it"? How are we supposed to know? Why are they asking this question here instead of calling an A/C repair company? I am betting that when the weather starts getting cold in the fall we will be inundated with "what's wrong with my furnace?" questions too. This place is sometimes frustrating and seems to prove that one should never underestimate the power of human stupidity. OK, I feel better now.

What say you?

Update:

I asked this quetion because I am having a lousy day and need a good laugh or three.

Update 2:

To vortex. I agree with the "any" key. Maybe its a cost issue. Perhaps they should eliminate the drink holder that pops out when I hit that little button and then they could afford an "any" key.

Well, my first thought would be that if said person was smart enough to correct the problem themselves, they wouldn't be asking for assistance in this forum in the first place. Unfortunately, their predisposition to a blissful state of unawareness is often accompanied by the inability to use spell check which is what really irritates me. Either that or spell check just can't make any sense of what they've written. In the scenario you've outlined here, I typically just hit "Show me the next question" and everything turns out just fine.

Now if I can just find the "any" key on this darn keyboard my day will be complete...

Well, this is where the *bots* tend to send people when they have questions, and typically aren't even sure HOW to ask it. I've only been here for a short time myself, but have been a member of a couple of pretty good construction specific bulliten boards. Electrical, plumbing, and general knowledge type of things, but those boards are monitored much more closely and don't put up with any sort of abuse. Stupid question still arrive occasionally, but if dealt with with any semblance of respect for the asker, they (the askers) learn what is needed to get them the desired result. The problem here is that there is almost NO interaction. Just "why is this?", followed by either good correct info, or total garbage, and the question (and the asker) *goes away*. Much more fun and informative when several knowledgible folks interact and banter back and fourth a little. Unfortunately, that is not how this site is set up. Quite frankly, even though I've only been here a short while, I suspect YOU already knew this. Didn't exactly take me forever to see who was giving good answers here, and you are one of those that does.

I know how these questions get on here.

They put Yahoo Answers as there home page.

They think they are searching the web, and type the question in the ask, instead of search answers.

And like the mighty Wizard of OZ, they get an answer.

Before you answer another question, try searching the same question, you will be surprised how many times that question has been asked.

I am all for to change the name of Yahoo Answers to The Wizard of OZ.

In the action bar under the questions, they have "Interesting","email", "Save", They should have one "Should Not Have Kids".

I hope this clear things up on these types of questions that are asked on this site.

    Have a good day.

The people that ask stupid questions are OBVIOUSLY from the planet Uranus. They enjoy watching people become annoyed and get frustrated so they prey on people just trying to help you with your issues on Y!A. DUHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm just kidding, but you said you wanted a laugh or two?

An Irish guy locally decided to check for a gas leak with a match. It helps to ask daft questions sometimes. We dont know if the irish guy asked the right person as they havnt found his head yet.
