How can i get my 2 month old to sleep?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any tips to help my little one sleep better. He doesnt seem to get more than 7 - 8 hours of sleep a day. when i put him to sleep he will sleep for about 20-30 minutes and then wake up. he is constantly yawning throughout the day. It is really bothering me that he is not getting any sleep. He also has eczema and i think it has spread to his scalp becuz he is constantly scratching his head when he's sleeping. is there anything i can do to help him sleep better? thnx in advance

Update:

thnx everyone for the answers. CJ mom, thnx for the suggestion....i tried the eucerin lotion and apparently he is allergic to it. it caused his eyes to swell shut. i have tried a lot of things n not seeing any improvements...im getting really frustrated

Put him down drowsy but awake. Also swaddling helps a lot at that age. He obviously isn't swaddled if he is scratching.

A feeding schedule and a play-eat-sleep schedule are basics to getting babies to be good sleepers.

Rocking etc a baby to sleep all the time is how you make poor sleepers. These children do not know how to fall asleep on their own, and they end up crying out between REM cycles.

You want to feed baby, play with him (give full attention!), then put down to nap. Repeat every 2-4 hours depending on age, baby, feeding method etc. At night swaddle and lay in crib. You can let the baby cry for up to 15m before giving a night feeding. At 2 months though one night feeding isn't unusual. Following the above pattern will allow your baby to sleep properly, and soon the baby will be sleeping 8+ hours at night, and getting in several 1-2 hour naps a day.

I started this very early, and my 13 weekers now sleep from

    midnight - 9am

    1pm-4pm

    7:30pm - 10:30pm

Hmmm....I find that my son sleeps a lot better and longer when he is on his stomach. If your son is moving his head from left to right without any problems then I would suggest trying to put him on his stomach. Also with the eczema...use Eucerin lotion and Dove soap instead of I guess the johnson and johnson stuff. My son had cradle cap- so I used Head and Shoulders twice a week and that cleared up in no time...hope this helps...

Try using some eczema cream, on his scalp too. Also, my son had eczema and it went away when I switched his baths to every other day. Using very little/no soap, use unscented soaps, lotions. When you put him down for naps and bed, put him down while he is still awake, yet very sleepy. This worked great for my son. It helps them learn to soothe themselves to sleep instead of relying on you to rock, feed, snuggle him to sleep. Good luck.

If you have eczema, it is important to take good care of your skin. Learn here https://tr.im/ifkuI

Take warm (not hot!) baths on a regular basis and immediately applying moisturizers afterward will help keep your skin moist.
