How much should I charge for tennis lessons?

My neighbor asked me to give tennis lessons to her 10 year old kid this summer but I don't really know how much money to ask for because i'm not a real teaching pro, I'm just 16 and captain of my high school team. The teaching pro that I take lessons from charges about 45 bucks an hour, but I know that's way too much for me to ask.

I gave the first 30 minute lesson today and she just handed me 20 bucks. I told her I thought it was too much, but she just told me to keep it and we'd sort out a price later.

How much money do you think is reasonable for a 16 year old kid to ask for when giving beginner lessons?

Update:

Yeah, it was only 30 minutes. It was really hot today and she thought 30 minutes was enough.

Well I've taught group lessons for my park rec with a number of people for 8 years now and just recently started doing private lessons for people if they want it. I've been playing tennis for 10 years.

I charge 20 dollars an hour for a single person. If they bring a friend then its 15 dollars each so there's a discount.. and I make 10 dollars more an hour :).

There's a thought for you :). I say get some experience teaching before you charge a ton.

I would ask for no more than $30/hr from an adult student. And for kids, no more than $20 (but if you give half-hour lessons, probably go with $15, rather than $10). These are low compared to rates you would pay at a tennis club, but (no offense to you) they aren't getting the same quality of instruction as they would from a real club pro. After you've taught for a couple years, then you can increase the price a bit. If I were to give lessons this summer (I have a little experience from teaching kids in a large-group summer clinic for 3 years now), I would probably charge an adult $25, and charge $20 for kids. That would seem fair to both me and the students.

My coach, teaching pro, whatever, charges 55 an hour. However, he's like 50-some and he's played in tournaments around the world.

Some girls on my local highschool team were giving tennis lessons... (they passed out fliers at tennis camp), and I think they were charging 20 an hour and 10 for thirty minutes? I would range it somewhere in there. 10-15 for thirty minutes and 20-25 for an hour. Good luck and have fun!

    Hope I helped! xD.

I charged $20/hr last summer when I gave twirling lessons, but that was for 2 girls. I think anywhere between $15 and $25 would be a good price for an hour.

As you're not a proper 'coach' the main thing you can do is make sure their grip is correct, and maybe any other things you can point out.

If you're just hitting then £5-£8 an hour is enough.

A real coach would charge around £10-£15 and even more if they're very, very good.

For only 30 min??? Or 1 hour?

If it's for one hour a would charge around $20 maybe $15 to $25 whatever they are willing to pay. If it's only for 30min then I would charge say something like $10 to $15 seems fair.

But hey if she wants to pay more, well better for you eh.

If you're not really super qualified to coach (aka you're just teaching them basic stuff, etc) and feel like $20 is ripping them off, just charge them $15/hr. Especially if you don't mind and you have fun while you teach.

It doesn't matter how much you charge. Its the great interest you are in.

So, you can let them feel of your coaching first and get them see your result B4 you talk to them about the charges ya.

As then you will feel better that way and know what are your expecting rates after seeing the result by them ya.

    Good luck

    Cheers. :)
