So if you go down one those boreholes to 40,000?

Does it hurt your ears like it does under water?

    The heat will quickly make you forget about your ears anyway.

    Forty thousand what? Feet? My friend, atmospheric pressure rises about one half pound per square inch for every 1000 feet you go down. At forty thousand feet you would be under about 20,000 psi more than you would be at the surface. If I did my arithmetic correctly that equals a bit over six hundred feet of sea water. I doubt very much that anything would hurt.
