why did God create cockroaches?
not that i have anything against the poor things, but from the point of view of intelligent design, what is their purpose?

they consume waste like any other bug.
Cockroaches eat just about anything. Being omnivore scavengers, they decompose and recycle the organic litter left behind by larger animals. The other big bonus is that cockroaches do not care about what they eat. Possessing a wide variety of bacteria and protozoa in their digestive system, they can eat everything!

From a purely biological point of view, cockroaches are one of the most succesful life forms out there. Along with ants and the common house fly, it's one of those designs that was just made to stand the test of time.
My guess is all three of these will be around long after we're gone.
