House built 1955. Here is some of the things lacking. Due to the gadgets, such as heated floors, whirlpools, freezers, air condition, outside outlets, up-graded dryer circuits, bedroom short circuit arrestor outlets, gfci-s in the kitchen and bathrooms, lighting in closets, gfci in garage, light and outlet in attic, gfci in laundry room outlet next to furnace, all specialized dedicated circuitry. This extra circuits calls for an up-grade to the meter load to an 100 amp box. or more. with many more circuits to the distribution box, 80% fill cir.brk. and 20% blank spaces. Dryers and stoves now have four pole outlet boxes.
Also, the fuses are the screw in type probably with two wires are more running to the fuse. Now, you can only have one wire per circuit breaker. The ground to the meter and circuit brk. box probably need up-grading. The basement needs an outlet also. Now, you probably, have two pole outlets instead of the
grounded 3 pole type. These can be corrected with gfci-s, in the circuit will allow conversion to 3 prongs.
An electrical city or township inspector will probably, be able to help you better than I.
But this are some of the changes needed to be made when selling and buying.
Oh, it should get rewired but is it under the grandpa's clause. I don't know this details.
Would it sell easier, only a realtor can say.
Well, sorry but that is to put it to today's electrical code standards, I might have missed something.

Old wiring may (or may not) be unsafe through misuse, natural aging, vermin attack etc.
If a test reveals degradation of the wiring to such an extent that sparking (arcing) could occur then re-wire. Otherwise it's down to you as to whether you can live with the existing number-of-sockets/lights & their positioning/arrangement.
Realistically, a 55-y-old installation has a very good chance of being as 'safe' as the day it was installed. Although it is not up to the very latest standards.

If the house is 55 years old and the wiring was never kept upto date then I say yes. It will make your wiring safer and upto code.
