Are vertical cracks that run through the bricks themselves, as well as the mortar in a load bearing masonry?

These puppies are about 2'x2' and I do not know if there is an internal structure.

    It is impossible to say based on the description - you are best having a surveyor take a look at them who can see them in person, has the right training, and is insured to carry the can if what he says turns out to be wrong. They could be nothing or they could be a sign of movement that needs addressing.

    It depends on many things. This probably isn't something we can help you with online, you likely need a professional to look at it.

    In my opinion, based on the given information:

    If the column is solely brick and mortar, it is not designed to carry any load other than its own weight. There should be something inside of it, brick is not a strong material in a structural sense. The cracks should not weaken the system, provided all of the loads it experiences are vertical.
