I'd love to see more Republicans kissing BP azz in public, that ought to go down real big in the Gulf states.
Please, post some more later when they realize this isn't going away and they will be forced to move or live forever on the dole.
If BP were to declare bankruptcy they wouldn't have to shut down, someone else would buy them, and the new company wouldn't be held responsible, in fact that's what other businesses do when faced with the financial responsibility for their negligence.
So BP or whatever its new name would be would continue, Obama would be long out of office since that wouldn't be done in less than seven years. And the only thing you would be laughing at is the misery of thousands of Americans left without a way to make a living.
Are you British?

BP cannot declare bankruptcy, because they would have to close down a large amount of working wells in other countries. I think there are 14 of them. Really, all loyal Americans shouldn't worry about BP. While Exxon is the most successful oil company, with a yearly profit of about 25 billion, BP is on the list of the top five, and gathers 17B every year...and that is profit.
Your loyalties should be with the United States of America, where an environmental disaster has taken away the livelihood of millions of people, threatens a coastline and miles of marshes, and is killing off thousands...or perhaps millions...of creatures in the ocean. More importantly, 11 human beings died in this tragedy, killed in an explosion that took place because BP neglected to put in place the necessary safety precautions. This tragedy could have been avoided and they could have saved themselves a huge bundle of money, had they installed the safety procedures they should have done.
President Obama spoke up for the people of Louisiana and other Southern states along the ocean when he and BP agreed to the Escrow fund. To say you would give all your cats away to see the people of Louisiana and other states have to wait months for court action to receive their money is taking political ideology a step too far.

Especially considering they employ more Americans than British. Especially since 39% of BP is American owned.
Ever heard of cutting of your nose to spite your face? In this scenario Americans would suffer.
