Because they have made an emotional investment in their scripture being 100% literally true about everything, even regarding subjects that the Bible authors weren't trying to address (science, history, etc.). They worship dogma, not God. If something contradicts reality, then find some way rationalize it away by either stretching the meaning of the passage in conflict, or pretending that the counter-evidence isn't there.

The tragic irony in this is that stretching the meaning of passages to imply that the Bible doesn't always say what it means, goes directly against the whole idea that the Bible's word is inerrant.

Because some people would rather be happy believing a lie than sad/empty knowing the truth. I am not saying that those truths you speak of would make anyone sad/empty, but certainly those types of people you are referencing. Everyone's happiness is different. I am agnostic so I see both sides. I tend to lean towards wanting the truth of things, but sometimes in life I can appreciate the moments where finding the truth of something has not brought me any joy, and wondered if I wouldn't have been better off being in ignorant bliss. I think the reason you may be frustrated is because you think that they should feel like you do about wanting to know the truth, but everyone creates their reality to a certain extent based on what they know about themselves and what they want in life. Some people take it to another/different level, but they are another different complete individual too, so that is to be expected.

this is a very deep question, to which i don't think we have an answer. but plz remember that people often believe in demonstrably false ideas that are secular not religious and new rather than old. so this is a much bigger problem.

I would suggest researching subjects like "humor" and "irony" for a better understanding of this organization. Then move right along to the Flying Spaghetti Monster. R-Amen.

There is a 'Flat Earth Society'?

Basically, it is a bunch of people who think the world is flat?
