Please remember one thing military personnel who have been trained and bonded with their Regiment /Corps personnel will support each other no matter what and the "military personnel" of today and tomorrow will be no different to those on D-Day "selfish is a word that is not in the military dictionary/vocabulary (it can't be as solders/airmen/naval personnel rely on their "opo's."to support/protect them).

You ask a fair and honest question, but you will get two different answers .

One answer from non military people.

Another answer from military or ex-military people, trust the latter's answer.

As for "why does war bring people together", well I believe it's to fight the common foe, if we don't support each other, then we can not hope to beat the enemy/foe, and therefore we become subservient to them.

Just look at the second world war effort put in by civilians to support the troops fighting in Europe both on the land and in the skies. This included ladies flying new planes from factory to airdrome throughout England. It's the threat of failure that brings people together, and I am scribing in the context of a "war situation."

    I respectively hope this helps.

I do actually believe that I would be brave enough to participate during d-day, most likely be part of the airborne division (if I was a guy).

I just finished my project on d-day about three weeks ago.

The information is still stuck in my head.

Jim; WWI did not ruin all of those empires. It wiped out the Ottomans and the Austro-Hungarians yet lots of the different survived till the tip of the 2d international warfare and the colonial wars. WWI did not ruin eu ability. It did in spite of the shown fact that set up the circumstances for the decline of eu ability which with the aid of undesirable dealing with of the peace contract have been prompted in the time of WWII inflicting the give way of the Empires. EDIT: You tell me to analyze mine greater yet you fail to understand that there grow to be no Austrian empire on the time. i don't think of the Hungarians could be happy wiht being left off the fee ticket. i might additionally question your skills as an academic with that reaction you submit. Any historian must manage to responding respectfully and acknowledging distinction of opinion. maximum somewhat aim to inspire debate. I purely highlighted that those empires weren't destroyed. They have been weakened little doubt however the acceptable blow got here with the colonial wars. the ecu militaries controlled to rearm extremely effectively and can have stood a plenty greater effective possibility of quelling issues interior the colonies weren't for the 2d international warfare. i'm keen on what you communicate i'm basically worried on your unwillingness to income all components. Any solid historian accepts that there are a number of the thank you to interpret an adventure yet somewhat than settle for this you as a substitute choose for a private attack in the previous an academic argument. protection tension historians have a foul adequate attractiveness interior the sphere as being obsessive and warfare mongering with out individuals such as you lashing out whilst somebody provides a distinctive attitude. you have not refuted something I somewhat have reported with regard to the issue being suggested. you basically take a seat there and scream what skills you have. i will try this to, dazzling of my type specialising in African colonial conflicts.

Most of those soldiers never had a choice...It'd be a choice of just getting shot or fight for your life, those around you and your country. So if scared shitless I'd force the courage into me to go and fight. and yeah I agree, so much life needs to be lost for there to be peace.
