Does California have the same immigration law as California?

Im am sick and tired of hearing my aunt that I live with, temporarily, talk about how all Californians are idiots when the talk down or talk about boycotting Arizona's new immigration law. (Im sure you know the one I speak of, if not GO AWAY!). I need to know is if the Arizona immigration law is in California's laws and we just don't know of it, doubtful, or is she confused and how do I go about telling her how silly she sounds if she is wrong?

The two laws are very similiar. But more to the point is that California DOES HAVE an immigration law. And has had one for about three years. Wachusa you are grasping at straws because parts of 834b actually afford Calif. law enforcement more latitude that our Az. law. Maybe the Californian's should boycott themselves!

The Arizona law just reinforces the federal law on immigration. California does have the same law except unlike Arizona, it doesn't have any language that requires police to ask for papers during a routine stop. In California, they can just ask a hispanic for their papers.

Great job on writing out your question!

    As I understand it...

Immigration laws are Federal not state. What Arizona is doing is making immigration a state issue. So "technically" the same law applies in California at a Federal level not state. Which is why here in CA a police cop doesn't have the right to demand proof of citizenship.

All states are covered by Federal immigration law. California has nothing even remotely like the Arizona law.

Note to Krazykaulitzgirl: You might want to do a bit more research into John McCain and his position in government.

California's immigration law is word for word exactly the same as California's immigration law.

The immigration law SB1070 is only enforced in Arizona. It is not in California. Arizona is one of the most conservative states while California is super liberal. They don't hold the same laws. And also John McCain who was the Republican candidate for this past presidential election is the governor of Arizona. The law is state wide and not nation wide. even president Obama says that he disagrees with it.

Source(s): I live in California but I go to school at University of Arizona, so i know about both Cali and Arizona.

I think I know what you meant. CA, ironically, has the toughest anti-illegal migrant law in the nation. City governments have just chosen to ignore it in order to pander to legal Latino voters. The result is sanctuary cities and triple the number of illegals of any other state. L.A. County alone has between 3 and 5 million. Now you know why we're broke.
