Is a degree in Civil Engineering Technology a waste?
I got a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Technology in 2008. I have had a couple of internships related to the subject that went absolutely no where and helped me in no how. I find myself working at temporary job that has nothing to do with what I graduated in. I have tried finding contacts and applying for jobs that I hoped would be a foot in the door to degree related company. I am about to give up and either just take what ever jobs I can get or start another long process of more schooling for a new degree. Is it too late to find a job in that field now that it has been about 2 years? I have taken refresher courses over the summer at a university in case I ever got a call. I have even applied for out of state jobs. Does anyone else find this degree to be as useless as I do? Any feedback is appreciated.
I have tried to take the FE (EIT) Exam to get licensed. I am scheduled to take it again in October. Will it make that much of a difference? No one ever really cares if I have it or not.

Im not sure what state your in but only in certain states they let you sit for the FE exam. The majority of states you need a engineering degree to do so.
My suggestion because I am a long term thinker would be to go back and get the full civil engineering degree. The career growth would be a lot higher and ooo yea you would make a lot more money.
This plan shouldnt take you long to do so
I guessing about two yrs to get the degree.
Trust me on this.......if not u will eventually find a job.....but u will never be able to advance past the engineering technican level.
I wouldnt consider it a waste...a engineering tech is very important to a project. But by the way you speak you sound like u want to become a engineer

The problem with your degree is that you may not be able to get licensed because it is not pure engineering but technology. People have been building anything and funding for roads has been cut but I'm sure you know all of this.
Your options are:
1) go back to school and get full civil engineering degree
2) try working for the railroads in maintenance of way. they are usually receptive to a technology degree as long as you are willing to move a lot
3) become a surveyor or something relate and hope to work your way into a civil engineering job
Also remember this job market is ridiculous right now there are more people with better qualifications in who can't find work either.

in case you're good at math, choose for civil. yet in view that your not, dont waste it sluggish... Civil makes extra efficient funds. Political sucks... So that's all count number of you buckling all the way down to get your math without delay. maximum those that % to improve into engineers are already good at math...

Well since I still have 5 classes I wouldn't know. I'm surprised you have not found anything? There may be a position or two available at the city but not until Jan at the earliest! Hang in There...
