Was I layed off or fired from my job?
In March I was notified that because I took unpaid time off I would not have a position in September; I was to work till the end of the school year, June 18th. I spoke with an employment lawter at that time because I has intermittent. FMLA. He then informed me that I was being layed off. Just wanting to make sure.

You were laid off.
You worked intermittently until June 18th. Then you were laid off and don't have a job in Sept when the school year re-starts.
If you were fired, you would have left in March when they told you what was happening.

What did your employer call it? It sounds to me that you were fired for disciplinary reasons. Check with your employer. Hope this helps.

If the employer stated that you "would not have a position" that = being fired

I would've fired you for not being able to type up written documents properly through proper spelling and grammar.
