Mr. Bean's answer is correct as far as it goes, but you *do* need to attach the wall mount assembly to the vertical studs in the wall. Just attaching it or one side of it only to sheetrock or wallboard is an invitation to disaster.

The installation instructions will explain exactly how to do all that. Follow them carefully.

There are some wall mount fixtures that are designed for attaching to one stud, but most require two.

Side comment: Pioneer, congrats on your wall mount article. That's the best on-line wall mount guide I've seen. The stud finding and probing procedure is especially right on. One thing I would add to your article: when probing with the nail, be alert for striking metal over the stud and immediately under the sheetrock. That's a protective cover plate for a horizontal run of Romex or other wiring. The wall mount needs to be raised or lowered a few inches to clear that.

You need to buy a mount that is compatible with the model you have. Make sure when you screw the mount into the wall you try to get the wall studs. The process is pretty easy but it may be a 2 person job to get the TV sitting on the mount right. Depending on what you do, you may need to connect the wires before putting it on the wall before you don't have room for your hands.
