My Hair Metal band of the day (take11)?

I have to honestly had a great time looking back as this era since I decided to undertake these questions. My musical foundation was formed with the hair metal bands of the 80s/90s. It is funny to think about how I would probably not be listening to death metal today if it was not for bands like Ratt and Quiet Riot in my youth. I honestly believe that hair metal is one of the most misunderstood sub-genres of heavy metal. (people will even argue that it is not even metal, which I honestly find hilarious) For some whatever reason the genre is dismissed by most metal fans because of a few bands that took the genre probably a little too far and found commercial success in doing so. But just like all genres of heavy metal there was an underground scene as well full of bands that were, IMO, better than what was popular.

Babylon A.D. was one of those bands that found some minor success with "Bang Goes The Bell" but that was as far as their sucess went. Even though they were just a cheesy as the next (I like the cheesiness) they were more of a straightforward, no-frills hair metal band. They did not go for the image that some bands did. They released two albums towards the end of the hair metal movement. They reunited at the end of the 90s and released a low budget independent release in 2002.

MQ: Thoughts on the band/songs?

MQ2: Are their bands that you consider heavy metal which most of the metal community does not?

BQ: Favorite Cheese?

Update:

@ShredDoc. Sam Kinison was a former preacher turned stand up comedian that had connections with the metal scene in the late 80s/early 90s. He died in a car accident in '92. He was known for his trademark screaming and had a hit song in the remake of "Wild Thing" from The Troggs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPIsv7j4fKQ (live version)

YES! I actually really dig these guys.. and yes it was the RoboCop 2 soundtrack featuring "the Kid Goes Wild" that got me into them.

    Bang Goes The Bell

    - As you said, pretty simple straight forward Hard Rock. Solid Rhythm, empowering drum rhythm. Slightly better than average bass and vocals. Like the basic riff, though this is not really a stand out of theirs, it is still quite listenable.

The Kid Goes Wild (features Sam Kinison)

    - My favorite Track of theirs. Has something of that early Motley Crue/ Skid Row vibe, right on the razor edge of Metal/Rock. Has much better lead guitar then their other songs, a good rocking pitch and drumline. I really dig the basic Chorus, and his singing a little dirtier than on the other tracks. As I said, it is my favorite song from them. ( I do prefer the Robocop video for it though... dunno why I always liked those movies)

    Psychedelic Sex Reaction

    - How do you NOT love a title like this? Yes... it is actually one of my least favorite songs from the, but I love the title, as it pretty well sums up EVERYTHING GLAM has ever stood for. The Guitar lead seems pretty cliches.. really the only thing on this track I like is the basic bass line.

    Bad Blood

    - While I generally prefer their debut release, this was one of the more interesting songs on the 92 release.. has a lot of a Great White/Southern Rock vibe to it. Song is pretty simple, but it has a good solid overall rhythm and the chorus works. Is pretty obvious radio play material.

MQ_ the Kid Goes Wild will probably always be my favorite for them. They are one of the GLAM bands, or Hair bands, that were a step closer to Metal, than most. Just listen to them play compared to Warrant or Nelson or Winger, and you can feel a much heavier aggressive vibe... even if it is a relatively Grade School level of aggression compared to say, Death metal, it was much closer in overall ooomph to old Heavy Metal, just with a commercial polish.

MQ2- Evanescence. I completely agree with the Shred Doc on this one, 110%. I listen to them, and despite the popularity and Goth trappings, the raw power of her voice and the basic but heavy riffs sound 10x heavier than most of Ozzy Osbourne's discography, or many other bands commonly accepted as Metal, including pretty much all Hair Metal bands. I mean.. how in the heck can people claim Skid Row and Slaughter as Metal Bands, and deny Evanescence? My personal opinion is that it is solely based on their popularity with the High School girl crowd, and nothing to do with the actual music. Having a chick singer still seems hard for a lot of Metalheads to accept also. But it is funny to me.. both Fallen and the Open Door are dramatically heavier than Lacuna Coil's last two albums (Karmacode and Shallow Life.. though I still love Karmacode), yet only the Trve Kvlt folks would ever accuse LC of being "not-metal"

MA: I like Deadly Metal a lot instrumentally but the vocals get a bit annoying. But, nice riffage and cool licks. 10,000 Lovers has good riffs and licks too, but it would be much cooler if they kicked it up a notch and kept the vocals more aggressive. Just Like God has a weird feeling which I went to describe but I can't. It's catchy, but other than that and the intro+outro there's nothing too interesting about it. I do like the album cover though. Give Me A Sign is surprisingly really good. I like how it progresses both instrumentally and vocally. Really cool solo too. Atlantis starts off with a very weird riff. The song sounds like it could've been good but turned out really messy. MA2: Judas Priest. Sometimes it has worked, sometimes it didn't. MA3: Sure. Sorry I haven't been answering any. It's just that hair metal is not something I'm too fond of. Perhaps your Qs can change that. BA: You haven't lived till you've tried some Lahori fried fish.

...I think this is y last Q to answer, then I gotta post mine... then I can relax and watch my show :)

Babylon AD sounds familiar... probably an album by a band that I am having a brainfart remembering

Bang Goes The Bell: Kick @$$ riff, great vocals. I really liked it, it has a catchy chorus.

The Kid Goes Wild: not sure who Sam Kinison is, but they work. It's a good song, I just prefer the first one.

Psychedelic Sex Reaction: first off, great song title, lol. Pretty dang good, it reminds me of another song, I can't quite put my finger on it.

Bad Blood: Cowbell intro FTW, lol. it kinda sounds a bit country to me. not a huge fan of it, probably my least favourite of the 4

MQ2: Evanescence, is it really too much to say that this is metal?:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZjf9C6atT4 ...seriously, Led Zeppelin gets called metal so easily, yet something at least twice as metal as them doesn't even get a chance?

BQ: Cheddar, I'm simple that way

*nope, still don't know him... I know Wild Thing, just not that version
