You need to target abs by doing sit ups / crunches or other excercises that are meant specifically to target the abdomin. The bicycle crunch excercise is commonly regarded as the best ab workout, but standard situps work great too.

Tough question to answer without know all the facts; however, I will try to share what I've learned about getting a bigger "belly."
Men often get larger stomachs from lack of exercise, over eating, drinking, and getting older. Women also start getting a bit of a protruding stomach as they get older. This is often due to weak stomach muscles after child birth. However, it too, can be caused by a lack of exercise, eating the wrong foods, drinking too much, and aging.
If your stomach is the only problem area you have and it's more flab than fat, then abdominal exercises will probably help. However, if you notice that your extremities are also getting larger, then it's probably a combination of all the above.
When we start aging our metabolism doesn't work as well as when we were younger. Also, as we age, we become more idle.
Try changing your daily routine. Eat less bad food, walk to the store, walk around your neighborhood, and include various forms of exercise that fit with your life style.
Leg lifts are are a great way to build muscle in your stomach area. Lie on the floor and put your hands under the small of your back (to prevent injury), and then raise your legs about 12 inches from the floor. Hold it for several seconds, then lower your legs. Rest 5-6 seconds and then raise them to 18 inches and do the same thing.
You can also opt to place a very small pillow under the small of your back and while you're holding your legs up, you can take your hands, formed into fists, and gently beat on your stomach with the butt of your fists.
The above method is what I did in the Navy many years ago. It hurt alot, but it worked wonders.
Best of Luck.

Reduce the usage of Beer.Exercise daily. Doing crunches will reduce your belly and will shape it. There are lot of youtube videos demonstrating exercises meant for 6 packs. Try some of those . Even if you don't get 6 packs your belly will be definitely reduced by practicing such targeted exercises. Good Luck !!!

Losing fat in one area only is impossible. When you work out, you work on the fat of your entire body. ea:I was in bootcamp and the instructor said that in that class, you'll go from your arm not stopping when waving to nothing TO shake.
However, crunches will increase muscle UNDER the fat on your stomach...so targeted muscle gain is true, unlike targeted fat loss.
Just walk and eat right. It's what I do, and I'm as healthy as a horse (or so my doctor says).
