Can drinking straight from a plastic bottle give you chapped lips?

I drink water direct from a plastic bottle everyday and my lips have become totally cracked and dry over the last few months. I am wondering if it could be related to the plastic bottle or is vitamin B deficiency more likely?

No reason why it should. Also B vitamin deficiencies, (with the exception of B12 deficiency in pernicious anaemia,) are virtually unknown in the UK. It may well be a mild dermatitis best treated with regular moisturising.

I know this is an old question....BUT, i was having an issue for about a year or so with chapped lips and it was related to drinking from plastic bottles like gatoraid and poweraid. buy the drink, drink it and i would fill the bottle back up with water and reuse it for a while, even after washing out the bottles with soap and a tiny amout of bleach, still got chapped lips. I dont remember how i figured it out but i gave up the plastic in favor of glass and havent had a prolbem since. I also use to use hyrdocortizone to keep my lip moustrised, it seemed to work better than any chap stick type of lip balm. huh, who knew??

I dont know but this is how you can get rid of chapped lips:

What I did was go to doctors, search the internet, read books and overall I created this routine:

Get a bowl (from the kitchen or anywhere) and fill it with warm water.

    Simple!

Put your mouth in it (haha) for a while, roughly 1 minute, and then get a toothbrush.:)

Brush your lips gently, and randomly dip your mouth in the warm water whilst doing it.

This is optional: rub an icecube on your lips.

Then put a tiny bit of whatever chapped lip product you have; zovirex, whatever, on your lips. I got mine which works brilliantly from a pound store.

Then apply a genorous amount of vaseline on your lips.

Continue every morning and it goes in 2-3days.

    Now that works only using:

an icecube, a toothbrush, warm water, coldsore product, vaseline and a bowl.

So basicly all you need that you may not have is a lip product and vaseline.

I wouldn't say that drinking straight out of a plastic bottle was the cause of cracked lips because lots of drinks come in plastic bottles and if it was damaging to your lip area they wouldn't produce them this way. They would use a carton for example.

i would think this would be totally possible. for one thing, when you drink from a bottle what do you do when you get water on your lip? you lick it off. and saliva dries out your lips and causes them to be chapped. maybe think about it, after you take a drink, do you lick your lips? maybe next time use a napkin. also, the water may be washing away the natural oils on your lip as well. maybe having chapstick on before drinking, then blotting the excess water with a tissue would do the trick.

    just a thought.

well it will only get chapped depending on the way you drink from the bottle. I do tht all the time but i dont have a problem with chapped lips. as long as you dont get liquid on your lips then it should be chapped.

I doubt it's related to the plastic bottle. They have been around for years.

You might not be a "pig" but drinking straight from a jug or carton is unsanitary. It will pass on any germs you have to other people who pour the liquid from the same container.
