How could God let this happen?!?

"the simple fact is that god, who is seen in any religion as the bringer of peace and happyness, is the cause of of many of these atrocities. If there is a god how can he let us do this to eachother and will he ever forgive us for what we have done"

This is a comment I saw on a youtube video. The video is a song by James Blunt titled as "No Bravery" and it talks about wars and different scenes of human suffering. The commentor has chosen, like many others have, to blame God to what we caused to ourselves. This happened to be a common behavior among the majority... How come God didn't stop all this?.. wars, suffering, hunger, disease.. etc.

And what makes this behavior even worse, is that it comes from people who are well educated and considered to be knowledgeable and civilized. This part of the comment has left me in wonders to what this person had in mind when he posted his comment? .. " how can he let us do this to eachother and will he ever forgive us for what we have done".

How would you reply to such comment? .. and why do those people, the number among the majority, tends to blame God to what we, ourselves, caused?

Update:

Pearl- It's not about the tests and trials.. it's about blaming God on something that we ourselves caused.

Bang your head... sirrah you should bang your head. This question is not about Blunt. It's about the comment and relation to God.

Update 2:

-----------------------

Somber- Thanks, I just wanted to be sure.

Because it is assuring and much easier to blame a Higher Being for all the things that go wrong in our lives instead of realizing that some of them are the consequences of our own deeds.

*As you can see, i'm not actually answering the Q. Just wanted to tell you that when i saw the Q, my heart sank. I thought something had happened to your niece =(

I'm really glad and thankful to God that this is not the case. I hope Allah grants her Shifa soon! God bless ♥*

You got a point, Mani. People tend to blame God because we are scared to face the truth that these are all results of our decisions.

Anyway, I believe people by nature are good. We all are good. But these negative happenings are mostly all man-made. God gave us guidance for I always refer as the Noble Qur'an.. and God gave us the sense of decision making. When finally faced with two choices, to do good or to do bad, it's always been us.. our decisions, our choice and we should take responsibility of the results it causes. Even the things given to us as tests or trials that are beyond our control, it's still our decision how to respond to it in the end.

    (1) "How can He let us do this to each other,

    (2) and will He ever forgive us for what we have done."

What I observed in this statement is that it somehow contradicts itself. The first part of it claims that these are all made by God, but the second line admits it is us who did it.

Verily, only ALLAH (s.w.t) knows what's best for everyone and we should always follow Him no matter what in order for us to be on the right path, Insha'Allah :)

I have posted this excerpt several times now, the complete document can be found on my blog; http://lifecheat.blogspot.com/2009/10/is-mercy-of-...

It all depends on your premise, many of us are blessed in invoking the inbuilt human faculty of belief and with the help of friends and family are perfectly satisfied in the reality of God, for others the satisfaction of the rational part of our being is equally important. However the "video or it does not exist" attitude not only betrays the lack of effort to understand an issue by some but it is a reflection of one's willingness to be duped with ease.

Now if one were to accept this world as a test or more accurately an opportunity to shape one's soul (another premise) then it all makes perfect sense. Once a soul is shaped and qualify to perform a certain task, (partly determined partly undetermined) hence Heaven as reward makes perfect sense then by the same token if a soul is deliberately corrupted to a certain point of no return then its containment becomes necessary. Hence Hell. The Mercy of God is in the laws of creation.

When playing the game of life so to speak and acting out the "good" and the "evil" this mercy is further quantified in a 10 handicap in your favor.( Quran 6:160 above) The only way to end up in Hell would be to “choose to lose” while exercising our God given ability that sets us apart from all other creatures.,"Free will". After understanding the value of free will it's not reasonable to remove it from our conclusion, ever. Furthermore the embedding of our understanding in ''free will" also takes care of other questions that are frequently raised about what God should do and shouldn't do. To then turn around and say well God should forgive irrespective of what you do will amount to diluting the value of this very valuable human core in the manifestation of "Free Will" to zero. To still insist on blaming God for free willed individuals after understanding these principles is absurd.

As I said it's all tied to your premise. If your "belief" is that there is no God then there can be a dozen other scenarios one could speculate on. Good luck with your quest I hope it not restricted to the youtube Universe.

A more accurate translation of the Quranic term Manyyasha would be, "according to His Laws". God has appointed Laws for the running of the Universe and the correct method to look at the will of God is to understand these laws. These Laws are detailed in the Qur’an for all to understand and act out. God in His mercy intervenes whenever He deem fit to further ease our burden.

The idea that you have stems from the misconception of the fact that "god created us and so he controls us "

yes he dd create us, does he control us ? no he doesnt

is earth based on the idea of justice ? no Allah says in the Quran 67:2:

he created to see which of us is better in deed and so justice

and no misery is only an idea for the after life, here their is pain suffering and one that prevents tat and uses his free will from god to good use is a winner in the hereafter, and the misery is a man made phenomenon, God ddnt ask us to do it, we dd it, we created nuclear bombs n amunitions to kill each other not God

if one is right and ask others for being righteous, this world can be a better place, but then for one to be free of all this is only a after life phenomenon

It is normal to doubt in face of great adversity. "Oh God, why have you forsaken me". In time of great natural disasters and personal tragedies, in comparing grave disparity of kings and farmers. There is some free will left and people use it for wars and killings and to spread hatred, some blame God for it, it is just His lack of interference with the free will he has given us. I do not agree with those who say this is all a test. He has given us many things to enjoy right here on earth and to intervene against evil.

The name of the test you asked the other day is Thematic Apperception Test. It is based on the theory that we have an individual programed way of perceiving things thus revealing our personality that we hide even from ourselves by projecting our attributes on to the paintings or inkblots.

@Don't Block Me Please" who are you? I will not block you for now, but I will be monitoring you very closely. There is something highly suspicious about you.

@Don't Block Me Please, yes, I just read your hateful comments about encouraging sectarian violence against women and children of Shia descent. You are blocked permanently, there are no exceptions in my book and forgiveness is not a a concept that exists in my dictionary.

God has given us free will and we will get our punishment in this world and the hereafter for whatever evil we chose to do. God will forgive those whom He wishes to forgive and there will be no injustice, even an atom's weight of injustice.

  • 1 decade ago

Humans don't like to take responsibility for their own actions.

Humans cry when their free will is taken away from them, but when they are allowed to use it, they use it for bad and then whine that they shouldn't have free will and that God should intervene.

So either way, there's just no pleasing them!

    Salam.

Yes we should not blame God for our own mistakes. This life is nothing but to test which one of us are good in our deeds.

  • 1 decade ago

We are in this world to be tested. God wants to see how patient we are with him and life so we can go to Heaven. Life isn't all rainbows and butterflies, there is evil in the world and we have to accept that and pray to God to keep us strong and patient.

    salam sister

    tell me about it

i think your talking about phylosophy, i did that topic as one of my subjects and OMGi was thhinking is this coming from educatated people. like the lecturer who is the teacher was going on about the existance of God. and in philosophy they classify god in accordance to the3 main religions Islam, christianity and Judaism. and come up with a conclusion that god well the definition is

    all knowing

    all powerfull

    and all good

and philosophers just say well if god was all good why does he let people die or why does he allow earthquakes. and even on the subject of hitler. not once did the teacher mention that it was Hitlers fault that all the jews dies he blamed it on god. claming that why didnt god give Hitler a better childhood.....

i was just like is this coming from educated people. is is like chhildren complaning why doesnt this happen or why didnt god do this, like it is like the only come back. like be happy with what god has given us

philosophy i must admit i kinda liked the subject but i just think it is so stupid. they go by theories and they basically worship them like religion, im not sure if you awear of philosophy theories but it is bad. like in philosophy they dont even know if we have a mind let alone exist.

what made me really angry was the fact that philosophy didnt go into religion they just classify all the religions who worship 1 god as a single religion. Islam is nothing like christianity, islam is so much better. chiritianity only has faith we muslims have science on our side, does that not prove anything.

yes i understand what you mean

salam it is nice to hear that other people know abou this

    salam

    @edit

in philosophy they also clame they you know how we have a blind spot i think it is at the back of your eye. so what philosophy clames it that 'if god was all knowing he would not give us a blind spot' or ' if he was all powerful he would fix thet blind spot at the back of our eyes'. seriously what is this world comming to, we cant blame god for things like this we should be greatfull with what we have been given. philosophers think of religious people as retards but i think of Phylosophy in relation to their existance of god argument as pathetic. i dont know abou other countries but im in Australia and that is a bit of how the subject of philosophy is taught here. thank god i dont do my major in philosophy i only study it as an elective subject as part of my behavioural science course.

    peace

    hope your doing well
