How do I make my netbook show up on another monitor?

OK, my main desktop computer power supply got fried this morning. I'm trying to use an Aspire netbook to work on, and I cannot make it show up on another monitor. I've got this big, 17" HP monitor, and when I reboot the netbook, it shows up while the Windows XP logo is on, and the little bar is showing underneath it with the blue thing going across, but as soon as it gets to the point where it goes dark for a second before showing the actual desktop, it reverts back to the monitor on the netbook. It's getting hard on the eyes trying to use this little bitty thing. Can anyone offer some assistance or tell me why this wont' work? thanks.

Update:

Theoxens - tried that, all it does is turn my little monitor off, doesn't make the big one come on, but thanks anyway.

Update 2:

Bless yo' little heart, Utsav! It worked! thanks!
