would it be wise to take core corses during the summer?
Im a history/poli-sci major and Want to start on these courses because i like them and would like to spend more time than a summer session I hate math and would like to just bulldoze through it in 1 summer session is this commonly done or can it even be done

You can take whatever classes you want in the summer (as long as they are offered). If you take one or two classes for your major during the summer, you get more time to focus on that one subject. This can be good if you know that a certain class is rather difficult. Plus you spend your summer learning about things you like.
You can also take your general education classes during the summer. This is good if you want to spend the semester focusing on classes for your major and you just want to get through your general education classes as painlessly as possible.

Most people take summer classes for subjects that they hate. So in your case no don't take it.
