What is or are the bad areas of Chattanooga to live in?
I am moving to the area and I was wondering if someone who knows could give me a heads up on where I shouldn't look. There are so many nice places I've read about, but I want to make sure that if I find an affordable place, its not because its a bad area of town.

Stay away from Brainerd, East Lake, Alton Park, or anywhere around Rossville Blvd. Red Bank if sort of iffy. East Brainerd is okay (somewhat suburban in nature) but there is a lot of traffic. The south side is becoming trendy. The north shore is trendy. Hixson is okay. Ooletwah is okay too. St. Elmo isn't as bad as it used to be.

Your best source for this is a good real estate agent. Good vs. bad can vary from block to block in any city. I have heard from relatives to avoid the area around UTC.
