Are the following "attacks" on Christianity?

1. Practicing a different religion or being Atheist or Agnostic.

2. Wanting separation of religion (any religion, including Christianity) and government.

3. Resisting having what some determine as the right lifestyle for themselves to be the lifestyle that everyone must follow.

Update:

Cuzz~ my own lifestyle and politics are deeply rooted in how I interpret the teachings of Jesus. That being said (actually, written, LOL), I do not invoke His name nor the religion when addressing politics or choice of lifestyle for others. In fact, it is against my beliefs to do so.

Update 2:

disgruntled~ that's pretty much the way I see it, as do many other Christians, Atheists, Muslims, Buddists,

Update 3:

etc.

Whatever anyone's beliefs or lack thereof, tolerance of and respect for difference is key.

Update 4:

GB~ could you elaborate on your "maybe" for #3, please?

Update 5:

GB, some examples would be sex outside of marriage, marriage for same sex couples, maybe even the use of alcohol, and even music and dance (in some religions)- resisting attempts by some to have everyone abide by what they believe is right for everyone. I'm not sure I am explaining this well.

Update 6:

Joseph, I am not understanding what you are writing. I am Christian and I do not view Christianity as being under attack by anyone. I do see fundamentalists of all religions attacking those who do not believe and live as they do. Fundamentalism is evil, regardless of what religion from which it arises.

Update 7:

I am also a Liberal. Kind of challenges your idea that Liberals attack Christianity.

No not at all, as a christian I was taught that God gave us free will and we had to choose our own path.

That politics or government and religion don't mix.

That he only helps those that help themselves.

And from my parents - you should never knock other peoples beliefs and convictions they are entitled to them so live and let live providing they are not directly hurting you.

That we all judge by our own standards which might be different to other peoples.

What I do object to is when people try to debunk or sneer at christianity most of our laws and morals are actually based on the 10 commandments and they enable us to live in relative harmony without killing each other.

@ Abe you are lumping us all together my son in law is a pagan and I love him to bits - only people who have the wrong idea about paganism would attack it.

I am completely neutral on religion. I neither believe nor do I disbelieve.

None of those are attacks on Christianity. However, I have heard many an atheist attack

    Christianity.

Separation of church and state is fine, but an attack on traditional Christmas decor is an

attack on having fun. There is nothing wrong with Christmas decor, or with a cross mounted

on a rock. Some people just want to be offended, whether they are anti religious or religious.

You can have any lifestyle you want, as long as you follow the law of the land.

There are intolerant people on both sides of the argument. Whether they are pro or con Christianity,

    they are still intolerant.

    1. No. Other people have the right to believe whatever they want. If it offends Christians, they should get over it. They do not have priority over anybody else. That's what the notion of equality revolves around.

    2. No its great. How would you like to live in a theocracy (one that's not of your religion)? Lets say an Islamic theocracy took over and declared Christianity illegal. The punishment is death. How would you like that? Now I know Christians are the majority... but that's how it would feel for others if such a thing happened.

    3. No... if its good for one doesn't mean its good for all. Refer to satanism.

Christianity is constantly under attack form some of the other religions and nothing is done or said to protect Christianity. So with this said that is why I am a Christian nobody sues over christian values being trampled on. But other religions sues. It's not unusual for other religions to sue for religious Preference. All Religions that Worship Jesus Christ can be attacked and it's done mostly by Liberals and other non-Christian Groups, You see you can say anything about a Christian and get away with it for it's teaching are truly non-violent.

No i think not , but the god squad see it so, Christians are hypocrites they see any un christian question as an attack. It seems they want everyone to follow in their footsteps and they also break their own commandments continually, and have done throughout time.

Take a look at the persecuting THEY have done to others,

Thou shalt not kill... how many have they killed tortured and maimed all in the name of a god of LOVE AND COMPASSION, so they say! 9,000,000 European pagan healers put to death, most were women!

Along with the native American, the Moor, the Hindu, the Aztec the Mayan. Thou shalt not steal! Well they did a pretty good job in south America huh? They even stole and renamed Pagan festivals, the list is endless. Thou shalt not commit adultery... how many have extra maritial affairs?

What about their clergymen who molest children, while their leaders hide it from the authorities, they actually help them to flee the law. Is then that goodness! THEY ARE EVIL. So 1.NO! 2. NO! 3. NO!

Source(s): Practicing Pagan who does not try to force his belief on anyone! Christians in particular attack like a pack of rabid wolves!

regrettably, i don't think that many carry close this easy thought, as many are ignorant to the surely scripture, as they permit their critiques be desperate via others, it truly is so conformist this is ridiculous (although Christians are portrayed as such). I thoroughly accept as true with you, and save on with Jesus Christ and the coaching of the Bible.

    D. none of the above are attacks on Christianity. As you know, the far right loves to play the victim, so just ignore them when they feign outrage.

  • 1 decade ago

    1. Not at all

    2. I don't think so.. obviously most Americans are at least nominally Christian, but that doesn't mean we should allow our government to explicitly endorse Christianity, as it would allow for non-equal treatment of people of other religious beliefs

    3. Not at all, and that's my biggest gripe with the Religious Right.. I really don't care what you think about people who are homosexual and/or having abortions... you don't have the right to impose your morality on others.

For some its all three. Myself, and I'm a devout Catholic, it would be unconstitutional to completely remove all religious influence from government. I respect everyone's beliefs and expect a mutual exchange. I don't tread on others and I don't want them to thread on me. But if you ask if my politics and beliefs are influenced by my religion I would say yes they are.
