choosing a SUV for a family of five?
My family is looking for a SUV with a third row. Additionally, it should also have the best fuel economy possible (25 highway at least). Hondas and toyotas are preferable, but other , manufacturerers with be considered.
I'm sorry I was thinking of a crossover type vehicle. The one we are looking at is the Toyota highlander. Car similar to that should be listed

The Honda Pilot comes to mind first. I have good experience with it, and other Honda products. They are trouble free, in my experience.
The Pilot may be able to get 25 MPG highway, but its a good size 6 cylinder, and you will have to drive conservatively to get good mileage in it.
The Toyota products are also a good choice, I have rental experience with the 4Runner, and it was a good drive, but the jump seats are very small, not suitable for anyone but the smallest person. Also, I would recommend a 6 cylinder in any Toyota product, the 4 cylinder is quiet and strong, but I, and others I know, have had trouble with that engine accumulating Carbon deposits in the air intake.
Toyota's 6 and 4 cylinder engine produce about the same fuel mileage, in my experience.

Consider Ford Flex. I believe it gets up to 24mpg, and seats 2 adults comfortably in 3rd row unlike many other SUVs which can barely fit 6 year olds. Keep in mind that even Honda or Toyota will not reach 25mpg, these are heavy vehicles.

the new kia sorento has good fuel economy because you can get an i4 or a v6. wont pull much.
in the jeep commander you can get a v6 that has good fuel economy and it could go thru anything.
the nissan pathfinder might be nice.
if you want a more comfortable car but it is more of a crossover with a thind row, the ford flex is nice

No 7 seat SUV is going to get that kind of mileage. I think you're dreaming.
