How to get an oil painting appraised?
I have a large oil painting that I believe is quite old. But I have a small budget. Any suggestions for getting it appraised?

You might try a museum or a curator in a museum or try these online sites--take a picture, download it to your computer and sent a copy of it to one of these sites:

If you lead Sotheby's to believe that you want to sell it, you can get a free appraisal. In the US, you can contact them at 212.606.7000 and find out who to email photos to. Make sure you take photos of the entire painting, the signature & the back of the painting.
Good luck!

Look in your phone book under Art appraisals, or call some local galleries and ask them who they use.

Send your question to
allexperts.com
Once you get into the site, look for Arts and Humanities.
Find the artist who could most likely answer your question.
They have different artist's for different types of art questions
Also send them the photo of the piece of art you have along with your question.
It may take a couple of days before they get back to you , but they will get back to you . I use them allot and they are very good at what they do and best of all they are free
