can you bring small animals to college?

i was thinking about bringing either a rabbit or hamster with me to college...is this allowed? I want to go to one of the big ten schools like indiana university, michigan state, penn state, ohio state, or university of minnesota.

It depends where you go, but I'm a student at IU and the only animals they actually allow in the dorms are goldfish. I doubt you'll be able to take a rabbit anywhere, but you could probably get by with something as small as a hamster so long as your roommate didn't mind or you were living in a single.

You need to just pull up each school's website and check. You may even have to call and check.

I know there are SOME colleges that let you bring your pets... Of any kind as long as they are under so many pounds...

But the majority of college, either don't allow them at all.. Or will only allow fish, in a tank no bigger.. than lets say.. 5 gallons...

    Each school is different.

most college dorms only allow small fish tanks

Many students dont have time to properly care for small pets.. which can lead to stinky cages.. there is also the risk of the animal escaping and causing problems.

you also have to consider that you will have roommates, some of them may be allergic to animals, or just may not want to live with animals. You have to respect your roommates as well.

Indiana University does not permit pets other than fish in the dorms.
