Paw licking and chewing?
Does anyone have remedies for paw licking/chewing that have actually worked?
My Boston started licking and biting her paws in October. They are red and swollen, and nothing seems to help. It doesn't seem to be seasonal allergies because she's been affected in every season (we live in the Northeast). She's very much an inside dog and barely walks on grass or in anything funky that might cause a reaction.
We've tried tea tree oil spray, lotramin, Atopica, Rescue Remedy and apple cider vinegar. Nothing seems to help. The rescue remedy was because we realized she started licking as soon as I got pregnant and thought she might've been upset about it. She is in fact very nervous around the baby, but the Rescue Remedy doesn't help much, so who knows if that's actually the problem.
We'll try anything at this point, her paws look awful.
Yes - we've been to the vet. He did a skin scraping, checked for fleas, mange, parasites, etc. He put her on Atopica, which is supposed to be a better (but more expensive) option vs. cortico-steriods for general allergies and inflamation. Four months and $800 later (this stuff is over $15 per pill), no improvement.

I had a dog who liked the top of her paw until it was raw. She did this a few times. It was like once she got started she couldn't stop and once it got raw it really bothered and so she liked even more. I started catching it as early as I could. I would bandage the foot with that stretchy tape that only sticks to itself. Lose enough for circulation, tight enough to make it hard for her to move it. I would do the big NO if she tried to take it off. Once the foot healed she would leave it alone. After 2 or 3 times of bandaging she just never did lick it again.
Never did figure out why she started or stopped. The vet never had an explanation either.

Have you tried a vet? I mean it could still be allergies like from the food she is eating or even boredom. You need for the vet to check her out. Get a cone too while you are at the vet to help stop the licking chewing when you cannot watch her and stop her from doing it.

my dog did that. go to the vet she might have a skin problem or flees. They might have to shave parts of her fur.

My dogs only do that when they get chicken or chicken products. Once I stopped giving them chicken, they stopped.
