does prepping your "area" while pregnant with oil really help prevent tearing?

I'm not pregnant but curious. The instructor on Baby Mama mentions it in a scene that if the husband/lover massages the "area" daily with olive oil it is to help stretch the urethra and help prevent tearing. I didn't know if any expected mothers tried this and whether it works or not.

Update:

Okay urethra isn't what I meant now stop bringing up my error.

i didnt use oil, but massaged the area daily from 7 months pregnant, and yes it stopped me from tearing so i would recommend it to any pregnant woman.

Also doing pelvic floor exercises all the way through pregnancy (tense like your stopping your pee mid flow) helps stopped tearing too

It doesn't help the urethra stretch (that would be very painful) lol. It help stretch the paraneum. I used it right before I was pushing with my second child and it helped I didn't tear at all and he was a big boy. The first time I didn't use it and she split me in half... I will def use it the next time also...
