My right knee makes a gross crunching sound whenever its bent.?

I am 16 years old and when i was 11..one day out of no where ((no injury or anything)) my knee swelled up to about the size of a grapefruit. For about a year and a half after that my knee hurt whenever climbing stairs or dancing or any kind of activity that had to do with bending of the knee. It stopped hurting and now it just makes VERY loud cracking and crunching noises whenever i bend it in anyway. I have no idea why this is and am very concerned that it will create problems in the future. It only hurts when i sit a wierd way for a long time or sometimes it just randomly feels very awkward and uncomfortable.

wow i thought i was the only one with this... i have same condition as you... right knee (although my left knee is starting to do it as well. i am 19 and developed it when i was about 14 or 15.. it makes the loud crunching sound when going down stairs or when bending it such as just squatting my own body weight. The sound is very long and continuous. I have been to a doctor several years ago and he said i ground away most of the cartilage, most likely from working out strenuously at a young age. I am going to be going to a new doctor soon for a second opinion.

You sister could be right, except that it's not called water on the knee. It is called knee emulsion and if it does not stop after a week or two (in which you should be in a knee brace) then you would have to go to the doc and have it drawn out with a really unpleasant needle.

im not a doctor so dont take my advice lol incase it is somethins, but i googled it and it said that when the knee makes a clicky/crunchy sound it means there is trapped air in the knee joint and the noise is the air "popping". so it might be nothing but id go get it checked anyway.
