At what age does a 'baby' become a 'toddler'?
Just curious when a baby isn't really considered a baby any more. Also what age do you generally stop taking your baby to the baby clinics for regular weight checks?
I am not talking about doctor checks for vacs.. I visit a baby clinic nurse who goes to our chemist down the road here every 2 weeks. She does a weight check, head circum check and a height check plus we discuss bubs feeding habits and what not at each visit.

They usually become a toddler around the time that they start to walk because thats when they are considered to "toddle" when trying to walk. Thats what I have always heard anyway. To toddle is to kinda sway back and forth and be exteremly off balance. SOOOOO. . . . a toddler is a toddler from the age of about 18months to about three or four.
Source(s): A toddler is a young child who is of the age of learning to walk,[1] between infancy and childhood. Toddling usually begins between the ages of 12 and 18 months.[2] During the toddler stage, the child also learns a great deal about social roles, develops motor skills, and first starts to use language. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toddler - 123Lv 71 decade ago
I'd go with about 18 months. my son was walking at about 9-10 months but I still saw "baby" in him. I still do and he's 17 months old but it's fading quickly. he's a full blown toddler just about -- he doesn't do many baby things anymore, except when he's sleeping. when he's sleeping he still shifts around and reaches up like he did when he was a baby. I think that's the last thing to go. aww :\
we went to the doctor at 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, and 15 months. we have an appointment for 18 months. after that I'm not sure -- he had vaccinations at all of those and I know that he'll have some at 18 months. he will have some at 2 years too I think, if I recall. I'm not sure if we'll have an appointment between 18 and 24 months, but after 2 they start going a lot less...once a year, at least according to my dr.

Between 12 and 18 months. Whenever they start walking. A toddling baby makes a toddler.
I'm not sure when the routine weight checks stop. We are done with vaccinations until my daughter is 4 y/o but she still has yearly check ups to watch her weight and height.

by medical definition:
newborn: up to one month old
infant: up to 12 mos
toddler: 12mos - 36mos?
and goes from there....
so, toddler starts at 12mos officially. well baby visits are normally birth, 1-2wks, 2/4/6/9/12/15/18/24/36mos, unless your dr tells you differently.
eta - every 2wks? why?? our dr stopped head circum. @ 9mos wbv. otherwise i wouldn't go more than once a month, unless your dr has given you instruction to go more often....check with your dr.
