How to change extra monitor settings when HDMI cable is not plugged in?
I was fiddling around with the settings under Devices and Printers trying to get a display on a Phillips flatscreen TV from a laptop. Nothing was being displayed. I think I applied the setting so that the main display would be on the TV. But as the TV isn't picking up the signal now whenever I plug it the HDMI cable the laptop screen goes blank and just displays the background and I can't use it. I want to be able to change the settings back but I don't know how to edit the settings when it isn't plugged in. Help much appreciated as this isn't any of my stuff. Thanks
Windows 7
xbox HDMI cable
ad. Before all this the drivers were updated and for a brief moment the TV displayed the laptop screen. It then asked to be restarted and I assumed that after the restart it would continue to function but no!
Thanks Schlenkster that worked perfectly, and I'm now watching the football on a big screen.

Press the windows key (the key between ctrl and alt) and p at the same time. Hit the right arrow key, and then enter. This is a quick way to change multiple monitor settings, and should switch it back even though you can't see it. If it didn't work, try it again, there are 4 different settings to scroll through (projector only, monitor only, extended, duplicated, not necessarily in that order). If this doesn't fix it, try going the other way.
