Do I need a business license before an LLC?

Alright...

I currently work as a freelance content marketer. I'm thinking about starting an LLC.

My question to you is...

Do I need to first get a business license before I can register an LLC in California?

or

Can I just form an LLC without a business license in the state of California?

    You need to learn more before you do anything. There is no such thing as a generic business license. Some activities need licenses, some don't.
