Tips for a really long flight?

Its a loooooong 12 hour flight and I just need to entertain myself during the flight.

I'm seventeen, going with my 21 year old brother, and he already told me that he is planning to sleep, so I don't know what to do.. I have trouble sleeping on the flights so some tips on that too?

I have my iPod Touch, and it has heaps of apps, a couple of movies, some podcasts, and thousands of songs, so iPod; check.

I might be taking my laptop, I don't know. Does British Airways allow laptops to be used on the flight?

I need some books, so could you suggest me some? I like Harry Potter and Stephen King stuff. And Lord of The Rings. :)

I'm definitely gonna sleep lots, probably about 6 hours. That's 6 hours of entertaining myself. D:

I don't actually like sudoku, so don't suggest me that.

I'm gonna be wearing skinny jeans (not too tight, just perfect and comfortable) and a soffffttt long sleeved shirt, should I bring a jacket too? I'm wearing sneakers, but I'll probably take them off during the flight.

And what should I take in my small backpack? Like, facial tissues, water, extra pair of socks, etc?

Tell me some more things I can do! I'm seventeen, going with my 21 year old brother, and he already told me that he is planning to sleep, so I don't know what to do.. I have trouble sleeping on the flights so some tips on that too?

Thanks so much! :)

I just got back from a 12 hour flight this week. Fortunately British Airways should have the personal in-flight entertainment system so you can watch movies, listen to music, watch TV shows and play games. Some people will bring a portable DVD player with them but since British Airways has the in-flight entertainment system, I would think you would not need to bring that with you. However hopefully you can fall asleep on the airplane as it is a long flight and being able to sleep on the flight will allow you to arrive at your destination refreshed and help minimize jet-lag.

As for the clothes, wearing layers is best because if you get hot, you can always take off a layer of clothing. I expect the airline to have blankets and pillows as well for you.

In your backpack, facial tissue is good. Water you can always ask the airline for. For security, you can only bring 100 ml of liquid. Extra pair of socks will work if your feet get cold easily, but you should be able to cover them with your blanket. I would pack some gum and maybe some light snack in case you don't like the food served to you.

Be sure to get up and stretch/walk every couple hours both to relieve tension and to avoid DVT (which even the healthiest people seem to get) Snacks are a must- Try to take healthy ones. Raisins, nuts, pretzels, string cheese (which is safe unrefridgerated for 24 hours). And yeah... throw in a candy or two. Reading material is a must too. In-flight entertainment is fairly good on long flights. But sometimes not enough. I always go for trashy gossip magazines for long flights, and also beauty magazines. They don't require much concentration and are entertaining enough to keep boredom at bay. But take whatever YOU find interesting. Maybe you want to tackle a certain novel you've been meaning to get to. Or a magazine of Sodoku puzzles, or crosswords. As for comfort. Lip balm! Cabin air is very dry, and long flights always leave me with chapped lips. Dress comfortably during the flight. and pack heavy socks or change to slippers in flight. Some airlines pass out slipper-socks on flights of 8+ hours.

If you're on a BA flight, you'll have an in-flight entertainment screen in your seat. It will have a wide selection of movies, TV shows, and even a few games loaded into it. Make sure you have some headphones to plug in just in case the plane doesn't have any extra.

Also, bring your laptop. You may not have a plug-in available to keep it charged, but it is at least an hour of entertainment before the battery dies. The only time you can't use it is during taxi, take-off and landing sequences.

Source(s): I have flown on over 16 intercontinental long-distance flights, on 6 different airlines, including BA.

I suggest not sleeping the night before so you are tired for the plane ride and have to sleep! maybe only sleep 2 hours. On some airlines they also have wifi on board it costs about 8 dollars. I'd highly reccomend getting that!

bring your sweatshirt, airplanes have the A/C blastin the whole flight

you could draw on the plane

yes, laptops are allowed, but you wont get internet service

and you do get a personal tv, so you can watch movies and tv, listen to music, and even play some games

wear layers of clothes! then you can take them off if you get hot or put on when you get cold.

CHARGE your ipod touch cuz trust me, it sucks when it your ipod runs out of battery on a flight.

also you should get an app on your ipod that has some type of IM so you can talk to people.
