Stopping power of co2 semi-auto BB gun?

Would a semi-auto co2 powered BB pistol be worthwhile as a secondary home defense weapon?

I've seen co2 powered air-soft guns do some pretty good damage to plywood(For being plastic and all).

So I would guess that metal BBs would have pretty good penetration under c02 power?

Thanks

Your only chance of success is to aim for your attacker's eyes. Are you that good of a shot under stress?

The energy figures for your 22 magnum are normally gathered from a 24 or 26 inch barrel. From an 18 or 20 inch, expect right at 300 ft-lbs of power. Now, some 9mm ammo has 330 ft-lbs but most people prefer the +P stuff right at about 400 ft-lbs. So, at best a 22 magnum i s 100 ft-lbs behind. Further, energy figures always favor the faster bullet while real-world results normally lean toward the heavier caliber. (that's why the 45-70 doesn't have a huge energy figure but it still hits like a tank) Additionally, your comparison of the grains of the 22 magnum to the 556 is pretty irrelevant. ALL 22 caliber rifles will have very similar weights of bullets. You already point out you think the 22LR is a 'pea-shooter' yet the standard 40 grain 22LR bullet is just as close to the 22 magnum as the 556 bullet. Finally, you must consider bullet design. The 22 magnum bullets are designed to expand and do most of their damage in a rabbit sized target. This does not equate to good wound characteristics vs human sized targets. oh yea, those shotshells won't have much power at all.

stopping power? you are talking about a bb gun. I wouldn't recommend anything smaller than a 38 special for self/home defense, and a freaking 22 would beat the crap out of a dang bb gun!!!! This is about as ridiculous as the idea that if you get a 12 gauge pump that you wont even need ammo because the sound of the slide alone will stop the bad guys. lol

Stopping power, other than a shot to the eyes, nil. Even a shot to the testicles wouldn't do much.

You've never seen airsoft do significant damage to real plywood. Balsa wood maybe, but not plywood.

Not a chance. Wont even go through a pair of jeans. This is a horrible idea, and very likely to get you killed if you tried it.

You would be better of duct taping it to a handle and using it as a club.
