Hi, fellow Senior Citizens today I was wondering................?

Do you still sit and play board/card games when you have the opportunity? Or has the computer and Xbox taken over completely?

I ask this because I love to sit and play Cluedo and Old maid etc. with the Grandchildren, and Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit with the older ones.

When I'm on my own I like to attempt Crosswords and other word games.

How about you,do you play along or do you think that these activities have had their day?

I love board games and card games and I miss my family so terribly. The month of July is the most lonely and sad for me, for that is when most of them had passed away.

Being alone now, the computer puzzles and games just have to suffice.

I always do Crosswords just to keep my brain going. We do play cards and the odd game of Trivial Pursuit. It is sad how children today do not want to play the board games, if it is not electronic and goes whizz, bang, zap and buzzing they do not seem to be interested.

You mentioned Cluedo, I remember buying that game for my son one Christmas, we started to play the game on New Years Eve, we were all so engrossed in the game that we did not realise that the New Year had come in. Board games were for all the family to join in and could be fun.

I'm not a game person. When I was younger I played Chess, Pinnacle Canasta and Greek Rummy. I taught my children and grand children to play chess and gave them all a chess game.

Since retiring - I mostly read - do this - listen to music and visit with family.

We watch about 3 to 4 hours of TV some evenings, mostly Travel, History or sports - Basketball or Boxing. Loving watching the world cup (Soccer) - never have ever watched daytime TV.

I'm becoming addicted to Youtube. Love the links that are shared here on answers.

I also enjoy being alone with my self and my thoughts.. I have a recorder - I record and then write my thoughts in my daily journal - using my computer.

    Very good question.

There isn't anyone to play board games with any more. My Grandson and I played Sorry when he was little, but he lives on the other side of the country. WE tease each other about getting together for a game and when ever he visits (not as often as I would like) we get the old board out and have a game or two. It isn't the game it is how we share time with each other.

Not from personal experience but from what I've heard the plates are enormous and, being filled with food, the portions must be, too. All of which must contribute to waste, not to mention the increasing size of the consumers. Having an old fashioned hearty appetite is only acceptable if the energy is going to be used up. The modern interpretation of a hearty appetite should be to eat healthily for the benefit of said heart. There should be no embarrassment or shame in sharing a plate of food or using a doggy bag. If it's paid for, eat it or take it.

Hubby and I play Scrabble with some neighbors. We play the Super Scrabble. Yes, it's a real-live board game, and more fun playing with real people, than an electronic version. We also play Pictionary and Trivial Pursuit. My son-in-law plays Settlers of Catan and is going to teach me. They are all board games.

Sold all the board games in a yard sale a few years ago, but don't play computer games either. At family gathering we might still play cards.

I love board games. We have a group in my neighborhood who are fantastic Scrabble players - and yes I am one of them. Also enjoy Uno with the kiddies and Pictionary, Clue and a few others. I also subscribe to the Herald Tribune crossword puzzle books - great fun for me.

I still play games and cards with my grandchildren. I also have a friend I like to beat at spades. We have a Wii, and it mostly gets used when we have company. I do play some games on my computer when I'm alone.

I enjoy crosswords very much, but the only board game I play with with grandsons is Sorry! My oldest will play War with two decks of cards, but I caught him cheating and gave him holy hell. That's been a year ago and maybe I'll give him another chance. His mom (my daughter) says that he took to heart what I said to him, and is prepared to play fairly.
